The purpose of the Bedford Silver Cord Program is to instill within students the importance of community service, and encourage students to be accountable for investing in their own educational experiences and in their community on a regular basis during their school years. The Silver Cord Award is a distinguished volunteer service award available to Bedford High School students who earn a minimum 25 hours of community service/volunteering during both junior and senior year of high school, for a total of at least 50 hours. Juniors and Seniors must complete a silver cord service form to show where, when and what they did to meet the community service hours each time. At Bedford’s senior award night in May, recipients will receive a Silver Cord to wear on their robes at graduation in recognition of their achievement and to thank them for serving our community.
