IB Courses at SRHS
IB Courses at SRHS are open to ALL Juniors and Seniors and we have LOTS of options!
You do not need to join an IB program or take the IB exams to take advantage of our interesting and engaging IB courses - check out all your options below.
Important to know: SL vs. HL
IB courses can be offered at Standard Level (SL) or Higher Level, (HL).
Some notes from the IB about the distinction:
SL courses are recommended to have at least 150 hours of instructional time
HL courses are recommended to have at least 240 instructional hours.
In most cases both SL and HL courses consist of the same educational aims, core syllabus and curriculum and assessment models.
HL courses typically also include a range of additional elements designed to allow students to explore areas of interest within the subject in more depth.
In this sense, SL courses are not watered down versions of their HL counterparts.
Some HL courses may be awarded more college credit than their SL counterparts.
Please note that some SL courses at Southridge are one-year courses, while some are two-year courses (designated as SL I/SL II). All HL courses are two-year courses (HL I/HL II)
