There is so much more going on in the library than reading fabulous stories. Help facilitate the many, varied, and unusual library activities that make this such a special place.
Make a lasting impact with your celebration by participating in the Sato Elementary Birthday Book Program. When you donate $10 to the Sato Library, your child will be invited to choose a brand-new book from our birthday book collection. Your child’s name and birthday will be written on the bookplate and -new for 2023- the book will be theirs to keep! Simply click "Make a Birthday Book Donation," select your student from the ParentVue screen, select School Items, Donations and then Birthday Books to complete your $10 payment. Once you have made your payment, click "Notify Mrs. Fry." You will be prompted to enter your receipt number and student's name. Next time your student visits the library they will be invited to choose a birthday book.
Did you know that as our library ages, up to 20% of the collection will need to be replaced each year due to wear, loss, and relevancy? Your donation allows us to keep our collection as inviting as it was on our first day.
Yes! We accept gently used books in good condition. Titles will be reviewed for age-appropriateness, condition, currency, and whether duplicates exist or are warranted in the library collection. Books not recommended for the library may be added to classroom libraries, our spring book exchange, or used in other ways within the school.
The school library is an important resource for English language learners. It may be the first place many students and their families get experience using a lending library. In the classroom students learn to read, learn to read for information, and become proficient English language readers. In the library we get to read for fun, the third pillar of reading development for fluent, life-long readers. Research shows that reading in one's native language (L1) increases reading fluency in English. Our limited budget does not justify the purchase of non-English language books for the Sato library, but you can help by taking time on your travels to purchase children's books in world languages for donation to our library.
