I knew I wanted to be a teacher when I was in second grade. At that age all I understood about being a good educator was the critical importance having an engaging reading voice, so I spent hours in my yard reading favorite stories out loud to an imaginary class. I still love to share stories with students, and I do my best to make those stories come to life as they did for me as a child.
In the very many years since I was in second grade I have worked as a summer camp counselor, fourth grade teacher, group fitness instructor, county literacy volunteer, enthusiastic school volunteer, OBOB coordinator, taekwondo school co-owner, mother of four fabulous kids, and now the Library Media Assistant at Sato Elementary (my absolute dream job). If you're keeping track, that's over 30 years professional and volunteer experience in education teaching preschoolers to adults in math, reading, writing, fitness, language learning, and library services. And I still swoon at a good story well told.
Library won't be every student's favorite special, but I want it to be a place where every student feels safe, seen, and cared for. Even if it's not their favorite place, I work hard to make it a space where each student experiences joy.

My name is Michelle Posey, and I'm so excited to be the new Library Media Assistant at Sato! I'm in the library 4 hours per day, spending most of my time as the library specialist for grades K-2. The students call me Ms. Michelle. Although I'm new to the library, I am not new to Sato. Last year I was a Kindergarten Paraeducator, so I had the privilege of working with our youngest learners. It is so fun to see those former kindergarteners as 1st graders now...they've grown so much! I'm a Portland native, and among my many hobbies are biking and tennis. I have three sons, a husband, a dog, and two cats. My favorite book is A Gentleman in Moscow, by Amor Towles.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to me any time!
