The Ohio Society of CPAs' Accounting Career Day at Cleveland State University - November 8
Good afternoon!
I wanted to reach out as I oversee Student Initiatives for The Ohio Society of CPAs and wanted to make you aware of our upcoming Accounting Career Day that will take place at Cleveland State University on November 8th from 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. We’d love for you to share this opportunity with your students if at all possible! We will have a great lineup of accounting professionals and college students who will introduce high school students to a career in accounting – and give them the opportunity to learn about future career opportunities within the profession! Students will also get to meet professionals & future employers at the event. I am attaching a sample agenda and a flyer that you can share.
Lunch is included and there is there is no cost to attend the event due to the generosity of The Ohio CPA Foundation.
To register, students and teachers can complete our registration form here. If it is easier you, teachers can also email me a list of students to register. Most of our participating high schools bring their students by bus – we do have funding opportunities available for this if needed – just let me know. Students are able to register individually as well.
Thanks for helping us reach students who are interested in exploring accounting and business careers by sharing this opportunity. We hope to see your students at the event! Don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions about the program!
Thanks so much!

University of Findlay - Potential Pharmacists Event - Friday, October 13
Please see the message below from the University of Findlay:
Many high school students are familiar with the roles of physicians and nurses. Our “V.I.P.2” Experience will introduce select high-achieving students to the expanding role of pharmacists in clinical, retail and health-systems settings.
We would like you to invite students from your school to join us for our V.I.P.2 day of learning and exploring. The date for the event is Friday, October 13th, 2023. You are welcome to invite high school students who are dedicated to academics, have an aptitude for science and math or are considering a career in healthcare. Your students will get a real taste of pharmacy practice as they spend time in the lab compounding chemicals, learning about physical assessment and filling prescriptions under the supervision of our College of Pharmacy faculty and teaching assistants. They will get an overview of the profession of pharmacy, Findlay’s pharmacy program, and will come home with souvenirs from their experience!
Pharmacy is an excellent career choice for students who excel in math and science and have a desire to make life better for others. The University of Findlay offers a 0+6 direct entry track in which high school seniors can be directly admitted into the college of pharmacy. This is a great option for high school students who wish to pursue pharmacy as a career. This track offers a seamless 6-year pathway to a Pharm.D. First time freshmen are introduced to the profession of pharmacy with pharmacy courses during their first semester on campus.
Please invite students who are able to attend Friday, October 13th, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. using the link below.

Questions to Ask/Things to Notice on a Campus Visit
For your Tour Guide
Why did you choose this school?
If you were in charge, what would you change? (Tell the guide the answer cannot be “parking.”)
What is missing here? What could be improved?
What is the best class you’ve had, and why?
What has been your most challenging class, and how did you handle it?
Who is your favorite professor, and why?
Have you been able to take most of your first-choice classes?
What is the largest class you’ve had? How many large classes have you had so far?
How satisfied are you with academic advising? What is your relationship with your advisor?
Where are your closest friends from? (This is to get at geographic diversity.)
What percentage of students are in fraternities and sororities (if the school has them)? To what extent does social life revolve around the Greek system?
What clubs and organizations are the most popular?
Have you had any internships or research opportunities?
Have you used the Career Services Office?
What do students do on weekends?
Do you feel safe on campus? What about off campus?
If you’re hungry at midnight, are there places on campus that are open where you can get food?
Make sure you learn about residence halls if you’ll be living in one - if you don’t see it on tour, ask your guide’s thoughts if they lived on campus as a freshman.
Same with the dining hall. Many colleges require you to have a meal plan which can be expensive, so ask how the food is and how many options there are. Even have lunch on campus if you’re offered.
For the Admissions Officer
What are the issues on campus that students are talking about?
Is this a politically active campus? Does it lean significantly left or right?
Tell me about some of the ways students can build leadership skills here.
Do students of different races, nationalities, and socioeconomic backgrounds interact easily?
What do students especially like about X University? What changes are they asking for? (Not parking)
Describe the relationship between students and their professors.
Describe the relationship between the college/university and the town/city.
What are the primary aspects of X College that differentiate it from other colleges/universities?
Ask about other things that add to the costs, room and board can make up a good percentage of overall cost. What are the residence hall options beyond year one (this is usually all you get to see on tour). Is a meal plan required?
Things to notice
Is the campus well-maintained, or is there deferred maintenance?
What is the neighborhood surrounding the campus like? Be sure to go all the way around the campus, not just around part of it. Venture several blocks in each direction.
Can you walk to things like CVS? How do you get to Target? Are there student-friendly restaurants within walking distance?
If there are facilities that matter to you – athletic center, art studios, dance studios, etc. – and they weren’t on the tour, ask where they are and go check them out.
If you have time, hang out in the student center and eavesdrop. What are the students talking about? The party Tuesday night where everyone was so drunk? Something interesting from a class? Look at bulletin boards (old fashioned, but colleges still use them).
Do the students you see look like your kind of people? Are they dressed up but you’re more casual? Do they look like they could use a shower and a washing machine but you’re not into that look?
Does this school look like it could be a comfortable and welcoming home for you for four years?
Advice: right after the tour is finished, write down some thoughts before talking to anyone you were on tour with (on your phone, paper, whatever you have) - what you liked, what you didn’t like - then talk it over. This will help you differentiate your honest opinion from what others thought and allow you to better compare visits.
Bama in Your Town Tour
If anyone is interested in The University of Alabama, they will have admissions recruiters in the area on Thursday, April 20 at 6:30pm at the Great Lakes Science Center. Visit their site to RSVP and learn more about the event.
