Two of our main internet providers in Beaufort County, Hargray and Comcast, are offering free Internet for several months for qualifying families that do not already have service.

Zoom Fixes

If either a teacher or student gets a message saying Zoom is blocked, they need to go to a school parking lot, connect to school wi-fi and complete a Menu Reset. Before sending students to schools, please consult and share the district's plan for having students safely visit our school sites.

Google Classroom Links

There are two new district-wide Google Classrooms that you may want to join. The first is a support Google Classroom where teachers can ask questions, share resources and access resources compiled by the EdTech team and others. The other is a training Google Classroom where teachers may complete modules for 1 hour of certificate renewal credit each.

WW2 Broadcast

World War II News Broadcast: Students combined music, sound effects, and voice recording to mimic an interrupted radio broadcast with breaking WW2 news. They used the program Audacity, which is a free audio editing tool.

Flipgrid

Flipgrid is a social learning platform that allows educators to ask a question, then the students respond in a video.

The on board tools in Flipgrid include emojis, filters, stickers, an onscreen whiteboard, note pad, and the ability to add your own videos and images.

Teachers can dictate the length and ability to comment. Videos are shareable when done. Click on Estee's Video overview 👉.

Tan's Takeaways

Tan is a teacher in Vietnam whose schools have been closed since Feb. 8th. Like most of us he had no time to prepare and within two weeks students, teachers, families were overwhelmed and drowning in a sea of links and documents. He said his faculty had to regroup for the longer closing. He shared some of his experiences and tips with Eve during a Zoom conversation.

Spelling City

Spelling City is an on line game-based learning site and app that offers 40+ engaging vocabulary, spelling, phonics, and writing activities to build reading comprehension. It is a great way for younger students to “play” with sight word lists and older students to practice with Word Master lists. They have opened up a longer (90 day) trial period during school closures.

Pear Deck

Pear Deck allows you to run a live lesson, even over Zoom, without even sharing your screen (because it pushes the Slides to student devices), but also its student self-paced mode really gives you flexibility when it comes to asynchronous lessons.

Google Classroom (Phone App)

The Google Classroom phone app is a great (and easier) way to see/hear notifications. If you have an iPhone, you will see the notifications pop up and stay in your notifications center for review later. If you have an Android phone, you will see a notifications section in the menu of your app.
