11th Grade: 2024-2025

 ENGLISH 

This artifact is my final research essay for my collage composition 2 class. Throughout the course I researched about all about hunger in America and how to solve it. This final research essay is the culmination of all my research, my interview, a survey I conducted, and everything I learned throughout this semester. I think that this essay helped me grow my writing skills as it is the longest essay I have ever had to write. This project changed my perspective because it really showed me how interconnected all the different solutions are, and just how dire of a situation hunger in America is. 

 This essay shows the JAGS pillar of communicate ideas because it explains to all who read it about the different solutions to ending Hunger in America. These solutions are the ones that I have personally found to be the best through all my research and learning throughout the semester and this is how I am presenting my argument to others. I also think that this project shows the pillar of recognise prospective because I had to take other people's opinions into account for this essay when I used their responses to my survey and the answers I got from my expert in my essay. This essay made me a better global citizen because by understanding how much of an issue this is in such a prospering country as America, it makes me think about those who live outside our country in less developed countries, who are likely to face this huge issue even harder.

HISTORY 

This artifact is from JAGS Europe trip when we went to the Louvre in Paris. We learned a lot of history throughout the trip like in Germany with visiting Dachau and staying in the city of Munich, as well as in the Austrian city of Salzburg and the salt mine visit, as well as just about every place that we stopped. This being said I think that visiting the louvre was the most significant history part of the trip for me. I have always loved learning about ancient history and seeing some of the pieces that I have heard of or only seen in pictures. Seeing these pieces of art in pictures truly doesn't do justice to the incredible work that people were able to do in the different time periods of history. This was truly the experience of the trip that made me grow to better appreciate history and the growth of humanity. 

I think that this represents the JAGS pillar of investigate the world because we were able to see small pieces of history from throughout the world. Some of the pieces from the Louvre are from places and times such as Ancient Greece or Ancient Rome, or other pieces from artists like Leonardo Da Vinci. These pieces are known worldwide and will be a source of inspiration for artists for years to come. I think that visiting the Louvre made me a better global citizen because it gave me a better perspective of the world. I think that experiencing things for yourself is one of the best ways to understand people and though we can't go back to the ancient or medieval times, by seeing these artifacts we can get a small glimpse into the lives of those who started to build the world into the way we know it now.

CO-CURRICULAR/EXTRA CURRICULAR 

It is a common thing in marching band that students who are juniors are left guides, basically meaning that they are the second most in charge of the squad and in teaching the newer marchers. This year I was in that spot but had extra responsibility as my squad had two freshmen that had never marched before. Me and my squad leader both helped everyone but for the most part I was in charge of teaching the freshmen closer to me. This was a new experience for me as I don't often teach people skills, much less something of such importance. It taught me a lot about how to teach different people, and patience with those who are struggling.

I think that this position represents the JAGS pillar of communicate ideas because it involves a lot of working with other people to get everything done. We also communicating throughout the band to learn drill and learn the music to make our shows. I also used communication in order to help teach the younger marchers how to learn drill and march properly. I think that having this kind of introductory leadership position made me a better global citizen because it taught me more about how to communicate with different people.  I think this communication is one of the most important aspects of relations with other people either in your community or in the whole world.

WORLD LANGUAGE 

This year I moved up to French 2 which has really enhanced my vocabulary and understanding of the language. As part of our JAGS Europe trip we went to france, specifically Paris. It was an amazing experience being able to read and understand a lot of the signs around me. I was even able to try to speak in french to a few people. I think that understanding the local language truly enhanced this part of the trip and made me feel a lot more comfortable in the local environment. I think that it enhanced my skills at french because it was so much more of an experience with the language. Understandably in a french class you are more surrounded by words that you will be learning, where as when I was in the country of france it was possible to see any word possible and it showed me how much I could guess the meaning of words and sentences just based of the words, phrases, and rules I already knew from French class, and even some from the 3 levels of Spanish I previously took.

I think that this aspect of the trip represents the JAGS pillar of communicate ideas because that is what I am trying to do by learning a foreign language. I think that is incredibly important thing that people continue to learn the language of other cultures because it is a great way to connect with the people of the world. By understanding another language I think that a person better understands culture and the significance of different things from other countries with different languages. I think that going on this trip and using the skills I have learned in this class made me a better global citizen because it let me better understand the world around me and has given me personal insight into the lives of those who live in Paris. I think that I grew to better apreciate the language even more and wish that I could take French 3 next year.

MATH

For this artifact I am using a project that I worked on during my automotive career tech class.  For this project me and a few of my other classmates that I work with worked to replace a head gasket on a 1990 Mazda Miata. This was a huge undertaking that took several months to complete and hearing the car run for the first time was one of the biggest moments of pride I think I have ever had. To replace this gasket we had to take out a lot of parts to get to the head so that we could take it out. When we were finally able to start putting everything back in we started to had to make sure that everything was torqued to regulation so that everything would hold together. Some of this involved conversions to get the correct numbers for us to use. This project improved my skills immensely. I learned so much about how a car works and how to replace many of the parts that we had to take out and put back in.

 think that this project represents the JAGS pillar of communicate ideas because there was so much communication to get this project done. None of the people I worked with had ever done this kind of project so we all had to communicate how to get work done correctly. I also think that this project represents the pillar of take action because the automotive program takes most of the cars we work on from people in the community. In this case, the car came from the family of one of the people I work with, and we were able to fix this car in a way that would have been much harder for the owner to do. I think that this project made me a better global citizen because it taught me about teamwork which is such an important thing to have  when we are trying  to work with others in the world.

Model UN

This artifact is the MUN conference that took place at Walsh University. This was a multi day conference where I was the delegate of the country of Denmark in the environmental committee and then joined my friend to represent Denmark as co-delegates during the full group session. I think that this was my favorite of the two conferences that I was a part of this year. I think that being a part of this conference helped me to better create resolutions as I was able to see a new way of constructing them because of all the new people and resolutions that were used during this event. I also think that it improved my ability to work to find solutions in a rush as during the full group portion of the conference each individual committee was pulled to solve a crisis in ten minutes.

I think that this conference shows the JAGS pillar of communicate ideas because that is what we do in these conferences. Most of us started with a basic resolution and worked through communication and discussion about which ideas should stay and work best, and which ideas should go because they didn't work. I also think that it represents the pillar of recognise perspectives because we have to recognise the perspectives of the other delegates to get resolutions made. We also have to recognise the perspectives of the countries that we are representing so that we can better understand how to communicate the wants of their government's and people. I think that this conference made me a better global citizen because it has given me a better perspective of the people and countries that affect the world around me.
