Communicate Ideas
ENGLISH
This essay is a research essay that was started after our class finished reading the book "A Hope More Powerful than the Sea" by Melissa Fleming were I researched about how the effects of mental illness are more prevalently seen within refugees. I think that this project and book opened my eyes further to the hardships these people face when forced to flee their homes and come to another country. I think that this project also further improved my abilities to research and reference from a book to make my points clear.
I think that this artifact shows the pillar of communicate ideas because this essay is communicating the information that I researched to the reader. With this essay I am conveying my concerns to other people so that may also recognise the hardships that come with being an immigrant. I think that I became a better global citizen through this project because it taught me a lot about refugees which are so prevalent in our current world. I think that with better understanding of the kind of places and life that these refugees are facing they are more likely to get the help they need to better adapt and live in the new world that they were likely forced into.
CO-CURRICULAR/EXTRA CURRICULAR
Every other year the band goes on a trip and this year we went to Hawaii. This trip took place over Thanksgiving break and lasted for 6 days, leaving early Wednesday and coming back on Monday. Though we did have time to have fun and relax we also did a few educational things while on the islands including performing by and touring the USS Missouri, visiting the Pearl Harbor memorial, marching in the Waikiki Holiday parade, and visiting the Polynesian Cultural Center. This band trip was the first time I had been on a plane or traveled so far from home and it taught me a lot about how to travel. I was able to use these new found skills later in the year when I traveled to Costa Rica with JAGS and I can see how they will be useful in the future when looking forwards to the future trips I have.
I think that this trip represents the JAGS pillar of Investigate the World because that it what travel truly is. By going on this trip I was able to see a part of the world that I had never seen before. Though Hawaii is a part of the United States it is still completely different from the culture and environment that we have here in Ohio. I also think that this trip represents the pillar of Recognise perspectives especially when we visited the Polynesian Culture Center. The center has 6 different sections all representing a different polynesian culture including the Samoa or Fuji. They had many different activities specifically from that culture that you could participate in, along with a few speakers who would teach you different things about the culture of the area we were visiting. I think that this trip made me a better global citizen because it taught me how to travel and how to better and how to better understand and connect with the people around me.

HISTORY
This is the documentary project that every JAGS sophomore must undertake. For this project my group and I chose to look at and research the way that different religions look at death, as well as a look at the supernatural view of death. We interviewed multiple different people and did a lot of research to create this documentary. We worked as a team with each of us interviewing at least one person, and all doing other smaller jobs. I think that this project improved my skills in many ways including communication and teamwork.
I think that this project represents the JAGS pillar of communicate ideas because we had to do a lot of communicating in order to get such a large project done. The project is also an act of communication in of itself, as we try to communicate our information to our audience. I also think that this project represents the pillar of recognise perspectives because the idea of our project was to understand the perspectives of those around the world in their different cultures. We also had to recognise the perspectives of our team members to make the project work for all of us who worked on it. I think that this project made me a better global citizen because it gave me a better perspective of those who live in the world around me.
SCIENCE
This project is the mole project from the beginning of the year where we made an art project depicting the theme of sherlock molmes while we learned its significance. Before this project we learned about Avogadro's number or mol. We then were given the theme and were given some time to create our own depiction of it. For this project I chose to decorate a ceiling tile and this was the result I was able to submit. I think that this project improved my skills in understanding by giving me a better representation of the things that I was learning,
I think that this project represents the JAGS pillar of communicate ideas because that is what the art is for, to convey a theme to others. I think that this project was a quick way to better explain such an important piece of chemistry that we would be using for the rest of the year. I think that this project made me a better global citizen because it taught me about a number and that is so globally significant. With mol being a number used throughout the world I can now better see how something that had seemed so insignificant to me, is so important to people and scientists throughout the world.

WORLD LANGUAGE
Though I have taken Spanish since I was in 6th grade I really struggled and didn't think that I would be able to continue with my journey in learning Spanish so for this year I switched to French as I had been told that it was a similar enough to be a relatively easy switch. And while I still think that this was the correct decision this artifact is still about learning Spanish. This year for the JAGS sophomore trip we visited the Latin American country of Costa Rica. We were able to do so much like white water rafting, ziplining, as well as visiting beaches and local restaurants that were able to serve us authentic cultural food. This was my first real experience leaving the country and I think that by having three levels of spanish taught to me I was better able to appreciate the culture that we were visiting. Though I was no longer in the course I still think that being surrounded by the language helped me better understand the language and the way that it is used in a culture that primarily speaks it.
I think that this trip represents the JAGS pillar of investigate the world because it allowed us to travel into a country that many of us had never traveled to. With this trip we were able to investigate and learn about the Costa Rican culture in a way that you only can when you are in the countrie. I also think that this trip represents the pillar of recognise perspectives because we all got to learn more about the people we were traveling with and their perspectives on the different things we were experiencing. We also got a first hand experience in a new country giving us a better perspective of why the citizens of Costa Rica may have the views they do based on the things we learned. I think that the experiences I had in Costa Rica made me a better global citizen because it gave me better insight on how different people throughout the world see different issues based on the different aspects of their culture and country.
