As a junior, I went to the Boy Scout summer camp at 7 ranges. There are many activities that scouts take part in while at camp. Usually, they will attend merit badge sessions and earn badges that will help them rank up. But, there are many other activities that they can do. Such as swimming, archery, or even tomahawk throwing. My troop is also special as we take the farthest camp from the dining. Then we just cook our food and sleep in good personal tents. But, like other troops, we still do partake in service projects for the camp.
This lines up with the goal because this service project was conservation-minded. It helped also that it was a large group of scouts helping out, making it not take too long. For this project, we pulled up solid on an abandoned path and planted plant seeds in the loose soil. It was meant as a way of improving the camp’s services and environment.
For my English requirement, I choose to take CCP Comp 1 and 2. These classes focus mainly on essay creation and writing. Because of this, I spent the majority of my time researching and writing essays. The main focus of Comp 2 is to choose a social issue and spend a whole term studying it. I choose the effects of global malnutrition. It led me to conduct a total of 4 essays purely on different aspects of malnutrition.
My 2nd essay was arguably the best as it allowed me to introduce the social issue and only required a small amount of studying. It connects to this goal as it required me to research on a global scale. Overall, I experienced many different horrifying facts about malnutrition in isolated places during the time I spent researching to complete this essay.
During my junior year, I was in the course CCP trigonometry. During this time I learned many mathematical solutions to equations both imaginary and real. Some of the objectives involved a unit circle. The unit circle is the basis of most questions in trigonometry. It allows for the identification of angles, side lengths, radians, and so much more.
This relates to this goal because circles can be found everywhere from nature to man-made structures and knowing how to use equations to simplify it can help tremendously. It helps with things as simple as creating equal pieces to creating triangles of differing angle measurements.
For my junior year, I took a 4th year of Spanish. During this class, we were informed of an assignment that had to be completed many different times. The “Tablas” assignment required us to read articles that were written in Spanish and answer questions after comprehending them. Of course, a lot of the news was focused on Russia and Ukraine for a while but, I was able to find a few articles that were talking about a Spanish country.
I believe this assignment directly correlates with this goal as it is reading articles that originated in a different country. It allowed me to see current issues through the eyes of someone I have never had the experience of witnessing. It also helped me gain an understanding of the current political climate of Spanish-speaking countries at the time.
During my spring break of junior year, I traveled with my JAGS class to Italy. I had a lot of fun with my classmates learning about the history and culture of a different country. While visiting, we went to many monuments and world-famous places. This helped to advance our knowledge of the past due to a great tour guide who helped us the entire way.
The trip connects to this goal as it helped us see the advancements that one of the original European countries created. It was a marvel to see some of the buildings that had been built with Roman concrete still standing today. It also helped me understand a huge amount of cultural advantages like the coliseum and the medieval themes portrayed in the city streets and food. Overall, I had fun traveling to a different continent and learning about their culture.
