Why JAGS? (Bio)
When I think of JAGS, the first thing that comes into mind is anything global. Economics, culture, governments, pretty much anything and everything about a country, and more importantly, how said country interacts with other countries. Learning everything from global politics, to a specific country's history hundreds of years ago represents, at least to me, the ideals of JAGS. Investigating the world and learning about a country's culture and history. Recognizing perspectives, learning how a country chooses to act on the world stage, and more importantly why. Communicating ideas, what is a country or organization trying to achieve? From the fight of democracy vs communism during the cold war, all the way to the ideals fought for by the USA today, and even criminal and terrorist organizations like ISIS. Taking action, how does a country take action on its ideals? How does its people react, and how can I take action to assist my own people?
The Four Pillars of JAGS
Resolution for 2021:
My JAGS resolution is to greatly reduce plastic use in my county. Every year Jackson county is responsible for an astronomical amount of plastic use, especially for the amount of population present in our township. As a township that is lucky enough to be in a financially stable position, it is our responsibility as a community and county as a whole to reduce reuse and recycle more that anyone else. A proposition I have to achieve this it to be mindful everyday and watch what you use and watch out for items such as water bottles that are easily reused that most people choose not to reuse after. Helping in a more heads on way is very easy, for instance the go green club at our own school provides a very easy and fun way to help assist trash. For me, this resolution most collects to clean water and sanitation, life below water, and life on land. I'm personally connected to this topic for I think reasons that are consistent for almost everyone. Preservation of animals in sea and on land has been shoved down our throats for years, but I truly think its more important now than ever.
What Have I Done?
I've recently started using reusable water bottles and glasses more and have mostly eliminated my use of plastic water bottles. Everyday in the morning I fill up my 1/2 gallon water bottle and drink it throughout the day. If I don't have access to my 1/2 gallon bottle, I've elected to use glasses instead of just picking up plastic water bottles, as they're also reusable.
