Marching Band - Squad Leader
July 2021
Mrs. Monigold
Senior Year - Communicate Ideas - Band - Makes accurate, specific observations about audience response and/or feedback, and makes appropriate changes leading to improved communication.
This year in Marching band I was selected as a squad leader. Leading, directing, and improving three other members of the band. Through being a squad leader, I had to identify and understand what information my squadlings needed, and when they needed it. Allowing them to process information coming at them in a fast pace, while also giving them the tools nd information that would allow to succeed was my main goal through learning our show.
This artifact demonstrates my understanding communicating ideas because I was able to allow them to succeed with the given resources I had available. If I was not good at communicating ideas, I feel as if I would have overwhelmed them with information, techniques, and other aspects that they simply didn't need to know. Through my communication of ideas, I was able to give them adequate enough information at a time that was simply right for them to have.

Political Science - Voter ID Debate
April 2022
Mr. Amedeo
Senior Year - Recognize Perspectives - Explains the perspectives of other people, groups, or scholars and distinguishes it from one’s own perspective.
During political science this year, students participated in a voter ID law debate. During this debate, you were assigned a side to the voter ID law debate (for or against) at random. I so happened to get the side of being for voter ID laws, different to that of my own personal opinion. This project forced me to try to recognize and understand a side of debate completely different from my own. While I still did not stand to agree with the side I was given, I truly made an effort to understand and see where the other side was coming from.
This project has improved my sense of global citizenship and improvement of my own self by trying to understand where different demographics are coming from. Before this, I would have just disregarded other opinions if they were too far removed from my own because I thought I could never come to understand them. While I still didn't agree with the other side of this debate, it has shown me to always look into both sides of a coin, even if its just to better understand your own side and what it stands for.

Music as a World Phenmenon
2nd Quarter 2021
Mrs. Monigold
Senior Year - Investigate the World- Selects and uses a variety of international and domestic sources to identify and weigh the most important evidence that addresses a global question.
Despite not being an English class, I thought it was applicable as an English GPS document. During our world music class, we were assigned to give a presentation about a random country chosen by us in Europe. I chose Serbia, and learned many things about the country that I simply hadn't known before. The European continent has always been scary for Americans to investigate into simply based on how rich and extensive European history is. Hundreds of different cultural groups can live in in the distance it takes to drive from Boston to New York, which is completely daunting for an American to even fathom. Through this Serbian presentation though, it got me just one stop closer to realizing all that Europe has to offer.
This document shows my improvement as a JAGS citizen by displaying my ability to investigate the world. Taking action by truly looking into the nuances of an area of the world and displaying the courage to dig my teeth deep into said area and find its niches and other various quirks of the country displays my global competence to its fullest.
