In Model United Nations (MUN), I learned valuable skills through writing resolutions, giving speeches, and taking detailed notes during sessions. Writing resolutions helped me understand how to clearly express ideas and propose solutions to global issues while working with others to create strong, organized documents. Giving speeches improved my public speaking and confidence, as I had to present my country’s views and persuade others to support my position. Taking notes was just as important, it helped me keep track of debates, understand different perspectives, and stay engaged in the discussion. Overall, MUN taught me how to think critically, communicate effectively, and collaborate with people who have different opinions. (See EXTRA CURRICULARS For more info!)
I was part of a team that created a promotional video to encourage students to join the French class at our school. We brainstormed ideas to make the video fun and informative, highlighting the benefits of learning a new language, such as exploring French culture, food, travel opportunities, and future career paths. I helped with writing the script, filming scenes, and even appeared on camera to share my personal experience in the class. It was a great way to use creativity and teamwork to promote something we’re passionate about and to show others how exciting and rewarding learning French can be.
For my forensics class, I created a project about Keith Cooper and his case through the Innocence Project. Keith Cooper was wrongfully convicted and spent years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. I researched how forensic evidence, or the lack of reliable evidence, played a major role in his case. I also learned about how the Innocence Project works to free people who have been wrongly convicted by using DNA testing and legal support. This project taught me how important accurate evidence is in the justice system and showed me how forensics can help fight for truth and justice.
This year, I earned several important certifications that helped me build a strong foundation in technology and safety. I became OSHA certified, which taught me how to recognize and prevent workplace hazards, especially in technical environments. I also completed certifications in CCNA: Introduction to Networks, Introduction to Cybersecurity, IT Essentials, and Linux Unhatched. These courses gave me hands-on experience with computer networks, basic cybersecurity practices, hardware and software troubleshooting, and the basics of using the Linux operating system. Each certification helped me develop valuable skills for future careers in IT and showed me how technology plays a crucial role in keeping systems secure and running smoothly.
My trip to France, Germany, and Switzerland taught me a lot about the world and myself. Traveling through different countries helped me understand how diverse cultures can be, even when they are so close together. I learned to appreciate different ways of living, thinking, and communicating. Being in unfamiliar environments pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me become more independent, flexible, and open-minded. I gained a deeper respect for other people’s traditions and perspectives, and I saw how history, language, and daily life can vary so much from one place to another. This experience helped me grow both personally and globally, and it reminded me of the value of learning through travel.
Through this trip, I also learned the importance of adapting to new situations and being open to experiences that are different from what I’m used to. Whether it was navigating unfamiliar streets, trying new foods, or communicating across language barriers, each moment challenged me to be more confident and resourceful. I developed a stronger sense of curiosity about the world and a deeper interest in global cultures. It became clear to me how valuable it is to step outside of my everyday environment and gain perspective on how others live. This journey not only taught me about other parts of the world, but it also helped me grow as a more thoughtful, aware, and engaged global citizen.
