ENGLISH - My freshman year English hero project I showed that even though someone does not look like a hero they are still able to be one. Most people in my class picked heroes from children's books and movies I picked a hero from All Quiet On The Western Front. By choosing my hero from All Quiet On The Western Front it caused a debate about what a hero can be.
The hero's journey relates very well to the JAGS pillar of communicate ideas because the project had the class find movies and communicate with the class why the person we picked is the hero in the movie. Most of the class picked movies where it is obvious who is a hero and villain however in the movie that me and my partner picked it is not obvious who is the villain and who is the hero.
HISTORY - My freshman year of history was one of the most fun classes that I was ever in. The class always managed to keep me engaged in the topic even if I thought the topic to be boring. Most of the time in class we would act as the countries and people in the time period we were in. This caused the class to be very memorable for me and most of the other people who were in the class.
The history packet relates very well to the JAGS pillar of investigate the world because in the packets we went to multiple different countries and learned what was going on during the time period. We learned about the culture side and the political side of conflict. Some of the conflict that we covered included the french revolution through the Vietnam war.
‘CO-CURRICULAR/EXTRA CURRICULAR’ - In my freshman year we got to pick a country and write facts about that country. This caused me and a buddy to pick Kazakhstan a country that we did not know a lot about and most of the other people in JAGS also not knowing a lot about. When we got to researching the country everything we learned was new. Our goal was not to tell people about a country that they already know about it was to inform them about a country that very few people know about.
The project relates very well to the JAGS pillar of investigate the world because the project had the freshman in JAGS look at the country they picked. This caused the freshmen to look into countries that they have not heard about before or pick a country that they already know about. Most of the freshman decided to go out of their knowledge zone and look into countries that they barely know about.
WORLD LANGUAGE -My first year of world language was also my first year at high school. I picked Spanish as my world language because of how many people speak it and how similar it is to English. My Spanish teacher was very laid-back with her letting us do anything we want when the work is done. This led to me and two friends playing go-fish whenever we got done with work early. My Spanish 1 was very different from most other people's Spanish 1 class with our class doing a play and learning something's that would not be taught until Spanish 2.
The deck of cards relates very well to the JAGS pillar of recognize perspectives because it showed us what we can do when we are done in class instead of being on our phones or chrome books. it also got us to engage more with people we would never have talked to because of how often people are on their electronics.
SCIENCE - The first year of science at the high school was similar to my 8th grade science class. the class was mostly note taking and hands on activities. This made it much easier for me to learn as we went farther into the year and did harder assignments. The class was memorable mainly because of the people who were in it.
The frog relates very well to the JAGS pillar of take action because the frog dissection showed the class what some scientists do for work. It also showed us how important something is with us learning before the project. The frog project was the thing that the entire class was looking forward to all year because of how much we heard about it from the upperclassmen.
