ENGLISH - My sophomore year in JAGS English we read the Great Gatsby. This book caused the most involvement from the class in a book we read all year. With us doing multiple class discussions. We also took a look at what life was like when the book was taking place and the problems people were facing. There were multiple activities to keep the class involved and entertained when we were reading.
The Great Gatsby relates very well with the JAGS pillar of recognise perspectives because it offers a look into what life could have been like in the 1920s. through the eyes of Nick Carraway. The novel also reveals the lengths people went to during prohibition to obtain alcohol with showing of the underground crime and bootleggers. This novel gave our class a deeper understanding of how different life was in the 1920s compared to now. This helped me to gain a deeper understanding of the struggle that most people had to face during the time.
HISTORY - The sophomore year of history in JAGS was one of the most interesting years of JAGS with us covering the history of america instead of the world like we did last year. With the class being all about american history it let the students connect more with what was being said letting it make a bigger impact than last year with us going into the topic of what some Americans were going through in the 50's and 60's.
The yellow journalism relates very well to the JAGS pillar of communicate ideas because the project showed us how easy it is to make something believable to people who do not fact check things. the project was also very enjoyable because of the topics that you picked from. the topics ranged from the titanic still having people on it to people being monsters in disguise.
‘CO-CURRICULAR/EXTRA CURRICULAR’ - The documentary that people made in sophomore year of JAGS was one of the most fun that I have had while inside of JAGS with my group picking a very controversial topic of school shootings. We had to make sure that the documentary was not political and to respect both political parties beliefs. While there were a few problems when trying to make it not controversial we got there in the end and made it as non political as we could.
The documentary relates very well to the JAGS pillar of investigate the world. This is because during the documentary the groups had to look at how their problem is in 2 different countries. The groups also had to get a person to interview from the countries that they choose. My group decided to look at the United States, Denmark and Australia and we decided to interview a friend of ours who lived in Denmark for a few years, an administrator at the high school and the uncle of one of the group members.
WORLD LANGUAGE - Spanish 2 was a moderate step up from Spanish 1. In Spanish 1 we would learn very simple words and watch videos compared to Spanish 2 had us talking and writing more in Spanish. A moderate amount of Spanish 2 was made up of projects and group activities.
The "How to Fail" project connects well to the JAGS pillar of Take Action because it required us to actively teach others by showing what not to do in school. Instead of just talking about success, we highlighted the habits and choices that led to failure—like procrastination, skipping homework, or not asking for help. It was a fun and creative way to take action by helping our classmates recognize these mistakes and avoid them in their own lives.
SCIENCE - Chemistry was a very challenging class for most of the people in it. This was mainly because of how fast we went through chapters causing not a lot of people to understand what was going on in the chapter until it was too late. Being part of JAGS also made it more challenging because of the time that was taken out of chemistry for JAGS projects and JAGS meetings.
The mole day project relates very well to the JAGS pillar of communicate ideas because while we all had the same topic every group went about it differently. Some people decided to stay as a one person group and make a tile or a costume. However there were people who decided to work in groups to make a movie trailer poster or something else not on the list.
