ENGLISH - The book Persepolis made me realize how well off some people have it. With Persepolis taking place in Iran during the revolution of the shah it and being from the perspective of a little girl. the book showed how growing up in really rough conditions can change a person and their beliefs.
Persepolis relates very well to the JAGS pillar of recognize perspectives because it showed us what some people are living through in places that do not get a lot of attention. the novel also made the class appreciate how nice it was to be born in a place where you are able to have a bunch of nice things ranging from freedom of speech to women having rights.
HISTORY - Having not a typical history class made the model UN class more memorable. Instead of sitting at a table and just learning about people we acted as our countries would. We also picked realistic events that have the possibility of happening in the real world with two opposing countries. We also got to write resolutions that people in the actual UN would write. This made it all a very entertaining and memorable class.
The documentary relates very well to the JAGS pillar of investigate the world because we had to research the different countries we picked or were assigned. After we picked a topic to debate we stayed in character of the country we picked. Staying in character of the country we made resolutions that fit the country. This caused some very interesting and fun resolutions to be brought up mainly from smaller countries such as Cuba.
‘CO-CURRICULAR/EXTRA CURRICULAR’ -
going to case western for model UN was a very fun experience. I got to hang out with my friends and enjoy doing model UN with people from different schools. My committee focused on the protection of weapons and keeping the world safe. The group of people was very welcoming and did a good job at making sure people were feeling welcome and knew what they were doing.
case western relates very well to the JAGS pillar of taking action. even though I did not talk a lot during the event I was still very prominent in the chamber by signing and co-authoring resolutions. the event was a very good insight at what actual members of the United Nations would end up doing during an actual crisis.
WORLD LANGUAGE - Third year Spanish was a very challenging and fun class. The class was all in Spanish except for when the teacher saw that we did not understand what was going on. The class was very memorable because of the things we did in it ranging from ranking music in locura de marzo to not going to Spanish and instead eating authentic Spanish food.
Locura de marzo relates very well to the JAGS pillar of investigate the world because the music was entirely in Spanish. this caused the class to rank the music on the beat that was being played instead of the words in the song. Locura de marzo was a nice change up from the normal Spanish class and a bunch of students enjoyed to see what song would win next.
Science - The class of forensics was very memorable because I really enjoyed the topics that we were covering and I had some of my friends in the class that helped to make the class very memorable. We also did a lot of labs that were very enjoyable. The labs ranged from weapon indents to seeing how DNA separation works.
The documentary relates very well to the JAGS pillar of recognize perspectives. We went through the perspectives of the police that were trying to solve the case and the pressure that they were under from the press and themselves. The documentary was very enjoyable and with the assignment to go with the documentary it was a very enjoyable documentary.
