Senior Year-Recognize Perspectives: Explains how perspectives influence human interactions and understandings of a situation, event, issue, or phenomenon.
To fulfill my senior English requirement for JAGS, I completed a character analysis for Heathcliff, who is one of the main characters in the well known novel Wuthering Heights. For this assignment, I had to choose five major life events that shaped who Heathcliff was, then present each event in a different way. What I mean by this is that for the first event, I chose his arrival at Wuthering Heights and instead of simply describing his arrival, I wrote a letter from the perspective of Heathcliff to another character, articulating his emotions and feelings during this event. For the second life, I chose when Heathcliff overhears Catherine, his lover, say that marrying Heathcliff would destroy her social standing. At that moment, Heathcliff left in anger, but because he left, he was unable to listen in on what Catherine said after he left, which was that she still loved him. I displayed his emotions at that moment in the text by writing the script of an interview between Heathcliff and Nelly, who was the main maid/housekeeper at Wuthering Heights. For the third, I described how Heathcliff felt when Catherine died through an email he wrote. Then for the fourth, I did a long description of how Heathcliff felt when he first met his son. And lastly, I made a sketch of Heathcliff’s death.

Senior Year- Communicate Ideas: Anticipates how audiences with diverse perspectives will interpret communicated information; applies that understanding to meet the needs of the diverse audience.
To fulfill my senior history requirement for JAGS, I will utilize my service project for the JAGS Senior Capstone, as it counts as a social studies course. For my service project, I worked with Dr. Maria Nwokike to create a short booklet of skin conditions common in children and adolescents, specifically making sure to include images of how the condition manifests in both darker and lighter skin tones. The conditions we specifically targeted were acne, psoriasis, eczema, rosacea, as well as a detailed subsection encompassing different types of skin cancer, like melanoma and squamous cell carcinoma. I made sure to not only talk about what causes these conditions but also preventative measures kids can take, whether that be washing their face with a gentle cleanser or using moisturizer and SPF. I then donated this booklet to Strausser elementary school, where it currently sits available to students.

Senior Year-Take Action: Identifies and creates opportunities for personal or collaborative actions to address a situation, event, issue, or phenomenon in a way that is likely to improve conditions.
To fulfill my senior extracurricular requirement for JAGS, I participated in Spanish National Honors Society’s annual “lecciones” where members of the club have the opportunity to teach elementary school kids Spanish ranging from level 1 to level 5 for an hour every week for 5 weeks. For this year, I was the head teacher of my class, meaning it was my job to look over the slides of what we’d teach the kids each day and bring my personal laptop to school every Wednesday night in order to share my screen with the smartboard so the students could see. I was paired with Riley Zagst, and we taught our group of third graders colors, pronouns, verbs, and how to accurately figure out the gender you should assign to adverbs when referring to a person or thing. Riley and I also brought in snacks every week to give to the children.
