Trip to Heifer Global Village
The Freshman Heifer Trip was extremely rewarding! I learned so much about myself, my peers, and my teachers. Going into this trip I was worried selfishly about bugs and dirt and being in a group I wouldn't like, but learned that when you take a second to think about others you learn to appreciate what you have and be thankful. So many things were memorable, from jamming out to Taylor swift in our cabin the first night to doing the macarena on the bus on the way back home. There were so many fun memories made, like waking up in the middle of the night to kill giant mosquitoes with our tennis shoes, and staying up until 12 am playing Uno in the heifer village. Some of the best memories weren't just the fun ones. While in the heifer simulation, I learned so much about how people live in 3rd world countries. I learned to love and celebrate the differences between our county and theirs.
In my JAGS English class freshman year we spent the second semester working on an assignment called the genius project. Each student chose a passion project to work on with weekly check ins, and an analysis presentation at the end of the year. For my genius project, I focused on cooking the national dish from every Hispanic country. It was a significant undertaking for me because it was more than just learning recipes. It was a personal exploration into the vibrant culture and tradition in these countries. Through that project I deepened my appreciation and understanding of Hispanic heritage, connecting tradition and stories one yummy meal at a time.
This project directly connected me to the pillar of recognizing perspectives. Each recipe I made offered a unique viewpoint into the history, traditions, and values of different cultures. By taking the time to understand the origins of these dishes, I wasn't just learning to cook but rather gaining insight into the perspectives of people from different backgrounds.

I had Mr.MarLett for JAGS world history my freshman year. In his class, we played a big challenge all year long, called the world cup. Throughout the year we would complete various activities, challenges, and games to test our knowledge on the parts of history we were learning. As people won, points were added up on a big scoreboard in the room, it pushed all of us to study, and truly care about the important content we were being taught.
The first challenge we did was the enlightenment philosophies draft. We walked into class Monday morning to see Mr.MarLett's room covered ceiling to floor, wall to wall, in browns gear and football stuff. We played a review game with and NFL twist to understand the history of enlightenment Philosophers. In order to succeed in this game we had to remember what we had learned and be able to communicate with our teammates and classmates to make trades to build a strong team. Which all ties this game to the Communicate Ideas pillar.

In Spanish 2 we learned about el Mes de Hernica Hispanica or Hispanic Heritage month. I was given an assignment to create and present a slideshow about Hispanic Heritage month. This presentation was a significant part of my Spanish class that year. It allowed me to dive deeper into the importance and culture, not just for myself but also for my classmates. By sharing the history, contributions, and diverse cultures within this month, I was able to foster a grater awareness and appreciation for Hispanic heritage within our school.
This project allowed me to contribute to the pillar of investigate the world. In researching and sharing this topic I was able to broaden my understanding of different cultures and their impact.

In biology class freshman year, we spent a lot of time working on our summit night project. For summit night we had to crate an info graphic about a country of our choice and its connection to two UN suitability goals. I chose Venezuela and Goals 13 & 6. This project pushed me to investigate the environmental challenges and initiatives within a specific nation through the lens of global sustainably.
By researching Venezuela's unique context and linking it to these critical UN goals. I gained a deeper understanding of environmental issues. I did this through the Investigate the world pillar
As a freshman I joined our high school mock trial team. For mock trial I had to memorize speeches, direct examinations, cross examinations, and rules of evidence as well as learn the facts of our case and be able to present evidence in court. We only had 5 months to be trial ready so we met twice a week until 5pm. I won't lie this was a big commitment, both via time spent at practice and the amount of work I did in my personal time. This was one of the best activities I chose to do in my freshman year of high school. I was a member of an awesome team of students that were amazingly supportive and fun. I built public speaking skills, and grew my self confidence. Both of our 2 teams were great, and both went to the regional level of competition, My team even won one of our trials at the regional level! This was an amazing experience. All that I learned through this club connected me to the take action pillar. I had to take action, being a hardworking member of the team.
