"The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you" - B.B. King
The challenging and fun project that we did in our freshman JAGS language arts class was the Genius Project. I especially liked it because everyone could pick anything they wanted to get better at, so no one had to do anything that they did not like. We then compiled this all on a Google site and had to present in front of the class. The presentation was so fun because every single classmate of mine was very excited and well immersed in the topic. After all, it is something that they love to do. I chose to make mine over chocolate chip cookies, and I ended up making a perfect recipe that I would like to use in the future as well. Although there were multiple times when the cookies did not turn out very good, it ended up all being worth it, and all of my classmates loved the cookies that I brought into class that day.
The genius project connects to the JAGS pillar of take action, as we had to come up with a topic we did not have much knowledge about and research it, to find the perfect solution and present it to our class. Which also connects to the JAGS pillar of communicating ideas. This was my best quality of work for English freshman year, as I was able to get comfortable with presenting and learn important research skills that I can use later in my high school and college education. Although it took a couple of weeks and a lot of hard work, it's a great example of the best project I did in my JAGS language arts class with Mrs. DePreist.

Summit night was the big project that we did, which investigated the world. This project helped me successfully communicate my ideas with my group members, as I used to do just do all of the work in 8th grade because I was scared of what would happen if I spoke up. This project was also one of my favorite things I did this year because it called for exploring a country you're interested in and making a Google drawing with everything you found. I loved this project as I was very interested in Peru, and I loved researching the environment and endangered animals, as it helped me put into perspective what is going on in the world and how there needs to be a solution.
This project connected to the JAGS pillar of investigating the world, as we had to research almost everything about the country. I chose to research Peru with Rory, and we had to research their government, economy, and environmental issues. This project was able to help me realize that the whole world has problems and that we need to start taking action. Freshman year was all about investigating the world and the ideas we researched that will lead into our sophomore year as we start to take action.
The project we did in science and throughout all of my classes that had the biggest impact on me was when we created a Tri-Fold of the country of our choosing. This was the first project that introduced us to JAGS. My partner was Kate, and we chose to research Saudi Arabia. This project introduced us to the research aspect of JAGS as we researched just about anything you would think of. Their government, their economy, and so on.
This project introduced me to what my first JAGS year would be. Investigate the world. This project was heavy on investigating the country we chose and being very well oriented in it to present it on GO night. I learned so much about Saudi Arabia and it made me want to research the world even more and learn more about it. This project reminded me that the world is huge and there is a lot of stuff I do not know. Which is why it is so important to investigate the world.

This year I took Spanish 2 with Senora Dennsion. The project that had the most significance to me was the Spanish Heritage Month project. We could choose multiple topics to do in this presentation, but I chose to make a Spanish dish. I made empanadas from scratch, and they turned out pretty good. It was very time-consuming and had some problem-solving solving but in the end, I am very glad that I decided to make empanadas for this project, as it was able to further connect me to the Spanish culture.
This project connected to the JAGS pillar of investigating the world, as I did a lot of research on what dish I wanted to make. The dish had to be something different then tacos, quesadillas, fajitas, and so on. I also researched multiple different recipes for making empanadas and was able to find the right ones. The one thing that challenged me during this project was closing the empanadas, as I usually overstuffed them with all of the beef I made. Overall, this project allowed me to further investigate the Spanish culture and build a deeper connection with it.
Heifer was the best co-curricular activity I did during my freshman year, and it was very important to me because it was the first school trip I went on with a more select group. Heifer was when I got to know everyone and built really good relationships. This trip introduced me to many people I did not think I would be friends with, but this allowed me to come out of my comfort zone. This trip also introduced me to trying new foods, and it opened my mind to the world as it put into context how bad some people had it in the world, as we had to live out their lives and almost roleplay them. I was a refugee, and I had to try and steal food from other countries if they did not let me borrow it. It made me put into perspective how tough it is for refugees and made me want to do something to make their lives better. It also put into perspective that many countries could not give them food because they did not have the resources.
The Heifer trip was truly a full embodiment of the JAGS pillar to investigate the world. As each group of students was assigned a country or to be a refugee. Each country was given an amount of food and the type of food based on how well off they were in the world. This was also seen throughout their housing. I was a refugee, and the place I spent the night in had a roof but only three walls, letting anyone walk right in. I also had to ask people for food and help, which embodied the pillar of communicating ideas. It helped me understand how unfair the world was. The heifer trip helped put the whole JAGS freshman class into perspective that the world is not sunshine and rainbows. Although this trip revealed the hidden truth of the world, it was also such a fun and memorable trip. As we got to investigate the world without friends and made new memories while communicating ideas with people in our class, we may not have interacted with before.
