"Do the best you can, until you know better" - Maya Angelou
This year, I completed AP Capstone by taking AP Research. I would recommend AP Seminar and AP Research to all students of JAGS as it made me a great researcher and presenter and a better writer. The topic I chose to research is the comparison of general surgeons and trauma surgeons on Grey's Anatomy because many medical students watch this drama, and this topic is very underresearched. I ended up finding a different thought throughout this research process. Mrs. Barnes and Mrs. Muckly were both very helpful throughout this process as they would always answer any questions I would have. Mrs. Muckely was my expert advisor, and she would always give me grammar tips right away after I shared different parts of my progress with her. This class embodies the JAGS pillar of communicating ideas, as I had to present my project to everyone and tell the whole class multiple times why my topic is important.
This class followed the JAGS pillar of communicating ideas, as we always had to share why our question was worth researching throughout the whole year. One of the challenges of this project was that I did not know what I wanted to research initially, and this put my behind the rest of my class. However, Mrs. Barnes and Mrs. Muckley were both very helpful in helping me narrow down my gap. Everyone always says that the 50 source project is the worst assignment in the whole class; however, this helped me narrow down my topic exactly and find why I want to research the medical field.
This year I took CPP Government and Politics with Mr. Marlett. He is by far one of the best teachers I have ever had. He makes learning so fun and inclusive, and there was never a day when I felt bored in that class. One of the biggest things we did in his class was the term paper. We had to pick a bill to write about and then describe how it goes through every step of the government. I chose to do a bill about drones as I did this for one of the games we played in his class.
The JAGS pillar that went best with this class was recognizing perspectives as we did multiple court cases and realized that there are ways in some cases where both sides could have one. The biggest challenge of this class was thinking of a bill to do for my term paper. However, Mr. Marlett helped me a lot decide on what bill to do and really helped me understand the concepts of each topic. This then resulted in me scoring 100% In the final because he helped me so much. This was by far one of my favorite classes I have ever taken and that is all because of Mr. Marlett.
This year was my final year of playing Jackson soccer. I have played soccer for Frank since I was 6 years old. This season meant the most out of all of my other seaons becuase the my class was rising up and was the starting line. Going into this season, everyone thought we were going to fail and were expecting a short season. However, we went all the way to regionals and made it almost as far as we have been in the tournament since I have been on the high school team. This resonated with the JAGS pillar of take action, as I took an active leadership role in the team. Although this season did not go the way I thought it would, it still meant the most to be as we could all be ourselves on the field and not hold anything back.
This project followed the JAGS ideas of take action, as I was a leader on the team. Although I was not a loud leader, many coaches have said that they appreciate my quiet leadership. I was a teammate that everyone could come up to and ask questions, whether it be about a game or practice or something else entirely. The most challenging thing about this year of soccer is that I was thrown into a completely new position that I have never played at all. However, this helped me grow into a leader, and I taught my teammates that stepping up and playing where you need to, is the perfect thing you could do for the team. As well as selfless is the most important quality to have on a team.
