Survival Advantages- things that make an organism more likely than another organism of the same species to survive.
Social- relating to interactions within a group.
Cluster- a closely packed group of butterflies, in which they gather for safety and warmth
Camouflage- a way for someone or something to hide itself by blending into the surroundings.
Evidence- information that supports a claim, idea, or theory.
Herd- a group of grazing animals.

Week 5:

Not all verbs add -ed to form the past tense:

I saw James yesterday.

We went to the movies.

An irregular verb has a special spelling for the past tense. Some irregular verbs are: come/came, do/did, say/said, go/went, eat/ ate, and sing/sang:

He already did his chores.

He will do his homework next.

We ate pasta last night.

We will eat steak tonight.

The choir sang this morning.

They will sing again tonight.

Week 4:

A simple sentence has one main, or independent, clause. It can stand alone.

We hiked to the top of the hill.

A compound sentence has two or more independent clauses:

Grandpa drove us home, and we ate dinner together.

Complex sentences include an independent clause and one or more subordinate, or dependent, clauses. A dependent clause cannot stand alone and often begins with words such as after, before, or when:

She helped when she fixed my bike.

Week 3:

Main and Helping Verbs

A verb can be more than one word. A main verb tells what the subject is or does. A helping verb helps the main verb show action.

Helping verbs include have, has, and had. Helping verbs must agree with the subject in simple and compound sentences:

Lee and I have decided to join.

Marley had examined the plant’s roots, and Bryan had removed its dry leaves.

Some special helping verbs, such as can, could, should, and must, show that something is possible, or that something is a duty.

It could rain this afternoon.

You must do your chores.

Week 2:

Contractions

A contraction is a shortened form of two words.

An apostrophe takes the place of one or more letters in a contraction:

is not = isn’t

was not = wasn’t

Some contractions are formed with forms of the verbs be, do, and have:

are not = aren’t

do not = don’t

have not = haven’t

Won’t is a contraction for will not. The spelling of the verb will changes.

Linking Verbs

An action verb tells what the subject does.

A linking verb connects the subject to a noun or an adjective in the predicate. It tells what the subject is or is like:

He is my brother.

The strawberries are sweet.

The linking verb be has special present-tense forms: am, is, are

A subject and linking verb must agree. The verbs am, is, and was are singular. The verbs are and were are plural:
