M3:DQ2 Vocabulary
Organism- any living thing, such as plant, or bacterium
Ice Age- a very long period of time when the Earth’s temperature is lower, resulting in the growth of ice sheets and glaciers.
Rain forest- a region in the tropics with many trees and lots of rain.
Desert- an area of land that receives very little rainfall.
Palentologist- a scientist who studies fossils
Extinct- no longer in existence; when no individuals in a species remain.
Grassland- a large area of land that is mainly covered in grass.
Fossil- the preserved remains or traces of ancient plants and animals.
Megafauna- large animals, especially those that weigh more than a metric ton.
Arctic Tundra- an environment near the North Pole with very cold and windy weather, short summers, and long winters.
Frozen fossil- an organism that was trapped and frozen in place for thousands or even millions of years.
Ocean- a very large area of water between continents.
