Georgia O'Keeffe
INTENT: To understand modern art and identify some artists within this movement.
IMPLEMENTATION: We learned about a variety of modern artists and analysed their work to identify where shape, line and colour had been used. We then set up an art gallery in the classroom and evaluated the artwork of modern artists, interpreting the possible meaning.
IMPACT: Children could name more than one modern artist and express their opinions in relation to modern art.

INTENT: To understand the work of Salvador Dali.
IMPLEMENTATION: We recapped our knowledge of still life art and introduced the artist Salvador Dali. We learned that his art comes from his subconscious memory and thoughts, often resulting from images in his dreams. We analysed his famous pieces of work and understood that they were abstract and didn't much represent reality. We then created our own art which was based on dreams and talked about how it was created using an abstract style.
IMPACT: Children could explain that Salvador Dali was a Spanish surrealist artist and link their own art to his own art.
INTENT: To create a final piece.
IMPLEMENTATION: We practised shading with diferent pencils to remind ourselves on how pressure and pencil type can impact the effect ist has. We looked at a variety of still life sketches. We then used objects to create our final piece and created it using a variety of heavy and light lines.
IMPACT: Children were able to use a variety of pencil types to create depth, texture and shadow to their images.

Antony Gormley
Lesson 2 & 3:
INTENT: To understand our key artist and use tools to define parts of the human body.
IMPLEMENTATION: We studied the work of Antony Gormley, considering the matierials he used for particular sculpting pieces. We also evaluated his work. We then experimented with clay, thinking about how we could create smooth surfaces and which tools would create texture.
After this experimentation, we had a go at creating parts of a human figure and how we would assemble these body parts. We used smoothing techniques to create shoulder blades and a back and then tools to create texture for hair.
IMPACT: Children understood the important of Antony Gormley and how he will influenc our final piece. They could also create figure shapes from clay.
INTENT: To plan and make a sculpture.
IMPLEMENTATION: We revised what we knew about figurative sculpting and then planned what we wanted our final piece to look like. We considered what we wanted it to represent and what emotions we wanted our sculpture to portray. Whist studying the work of others, we carefully planned and discussed our designs.
We then, using our tools and hands, created our final pieces using modelling and assembling.
Once we were happy with our final piece, we evaluated our work. We talked about what we found hard and the challenges we had to overcome along with what we were proud of.
