WHO I AM: Celebrating me and my learning communities

Dear readers,

Welcome to my Year 6 Exhibition page. My name is Charlie Yu; I live in Hong Kong with my parents and I am the only child. I go to Beacon Hill School (BHS).

Once you get to know me, you’ll learn that what I like to do most is dance. I have been dancing since I was 4 years old; Right now I dance contemporary, hip hop, Tap dance and ballet. I also have attended dance competitions such as the Dance World Cup. After qualifying in Hong Kong, I went to compete in Portugal where I placed 10th in the finals. It may mean many more years of rigorous training, but when I grow up, I would like to be a world-famous dancer! Besides dance, my other passion is dogs. I have 2 dogs named Marshall and Macerena. The reason I like dogs is because they are loyal, cheerful, and good companions. They are always there when you need them to turn a frown into a smile. My parents and I agreed that we will open a center for abandoned and stray dogs when I finish university. At that time, I will be more capable of looking after them.

From Primary 5 to 6, I am really proud that I made progress in mathematics and reading. In Year 5, I used to attend support sessions where I did extra mental maths and reading; I also did Rainbow Reading assignments every week. Rainbow reading is a course to improve students' reading. With the help of my class teacher, I believe my maths and reading are now back on track. What I have improved most on is writing because it is my favourite subject. I am also grateful to have a good English tutor. She taught me various tenses and literary devices. I managed to improve on all of these subjects by practising every day and asking questions. In all of Year 6, what I enjoyed the most was drafting a speech about ancient China for my Civilisations unit. Although there is room for improvement, I am proud of my performance this year! I enjoyed Year 6 very much!

With secondary school beginning in August, I am a little worried about how I am going to start the new year. Besides going to a new school, it might be hard to get back to a routine as I have been out of school for months due to the Coronavirus-related school closures. However, I just can’t wait to have my own locker, take different subjects, and make new friends!

This site is designed to show you who I am. I hope that you now know who I am.
