Knights sometimes rode into battle on horses, and sometimes attacked on foot. They would use a variety of weapons, but mainly used a shield and broadsword. A broadsword was a heavy sword used to attack an enemy's armor. Then, the foot men and archers could easily kill the weakened enemies. They also used lances, daggers, halberds and maces, which allowed them to deal heavy damage while moving quickly. Daggers were small knives used to pierce an enemy's chain mail or stab them, lances were long wooden sticks, and a mace was a wooden stick with a large metal, spiked ball at the front end of it. A halberd is a cross between a spear and an ax, and allowed much more damage to be inflicted on the enemies. A spear, also used by knights, was a long stick that ends with a metal or stone arrowhead, used to stab enemies from moderately far away.
