Castle Defense

Defense Tactics

The defensive features and weapons we have include:

  • A moat 30 feet deep, and filled with wooden stakes - a large body of water surrounding the castle on all sides, filled with sharp wooden nails
  • A drawbridge - to stop attackers from crossing over the moat
  • An iron-gated double-door entrance (Gatehouse) - this provides more protection from battering rams and invaders
  • 4 Catapults/Mangonels - machines that launch projectiles over long distances
  • 8 Ballistas - machines that fire damaging and large arrows
  • Two layers of double-doors - two pairs of two doors to make it harder to enter the castle by battering ram
  • A Stone Keep - A final resort or emergency tower during attacks, which also served as a lookout
  • 305 Archers - soldiers who shot arrows from long-range
  • Battlements - open areas at the top of a wall devoted for creating openings for archers on top of the castle to shoot from
  • 4 Fortified Towers (Archer Tower) - towers where archers could shoot from high up and have less of a risk of being killed
  • Curtain Wall - A fortified wall that links two of the four towers together in the castle
  • Arrow Loops - small slits in castle walls where archers could shoot freely without need for cover

To defend our castle, we will combine these tools we have, and hundreds of troops and weapons (horsemen, footmen, archers, etc.), to defend our castle from attack. We will fortify our castle by stocking up on supplies, strengthening structures, and using more stone and heavy materials (not flammable materials). We will set men on each lookout post to make sure we are not taken by surprise.
