Online Resources
Message from Hi-Cap K-8 Specialists
In addition to the online resources below, you could also have your child participate in valuable hands-on opportunities. These include; art activities, 3D sculptures involving cardboard & paper, cooking, puzzles, board games, gardening, and any type of imaginative play. This is also a good time for them to take up a new hobby or to research a topic of interest they might have. Reading and writing are great activities for time at home. If your child is in need of a book, please contact one of us. hherder@be.wednet.edu or kbrown@be.wednet.edu.

Watch a video on a topic that interests you: many are available on on Netflix (here is a list https://uproxx.com/life/best-science-documentaries-on-netflix-right-now/) or https://www.pbs.org/video/#video-landing-science-and-nature
Pick a country and plan a trip: How would you get there, what will you see when you get there, what is different and the same about their culture
Pick a decade and read about important historical events: https://www.historycentral.com/dates/
Watch a documentary: https://www.pbs.org/video/#video-landing-history

From Byrdseed.com - a favorite of ours!
I'll still be delivering the Puzzlements mailer every Friday
Byrdseed TV - I have a “Stay Home Special” going: two months for $19. This is intended to help parents out (so please pass it on!), but teachers are more than welcome to use that link as well, of course.
I also put together a free collection of videos (mostly games, math curiosities, and things that can kinda run themselves) for parents suddenly at home with kids. Feel free to share with folks who need something Byrdseed.TV/kids.
Additionally - Here’s my pal Lisa Van Gemert’s YouTube class on short stories. Every day she’s been leading an hour-long class, live with dozens of students following along in real-time, interacting, and chatting with her. Great literature, but, more importantly, great thinking!
