Do You Need a Job?

WorkSource, located in Mount Vernon, has a youth job center that serves low income people between the ages of 14 and 24. *To be considered low income, one must be getting welfare or food stamps, be homeless, a foster child, OR have family income that is within WorkSource guidelines.


WorkSource Youth Programs provide many services to *low-income students who are in school (ages 14-21) and to those who have left school (ages 16-24) that will help them be successful in school and work. Services are offered in the following areas:

  • Job skills training

  • Career counseling

  • Internships

  • Job placements

  • Mentoring

  • Tutoring

  • Leadership development

  • Financial Literacy

  • Entrepreneurial skills training (start-up success skills)

  • Local labor market (jobs) and job information services

  • Education opportunities after high school and training support

  • Workforce training and preparation for specific career clusters

  • And more….



To join this program, a young person MUST BE LOW INCOME (*see above) AND meet one of the following requirements:

  • Struggle with basic literacy skills OR

  • Be an English Language Learner OR

  • Have dropped out of school OR

  • Homeless OR

  • A runaway OR

  • A foster child OR

  • Have a disability OR

  • Be pregnant or a parent OR

  • Be a convicted offender OR

  • Need extra help to complete education or get or hold employment
