Instrument Supplies

Clarinets and saxophones must have a supply of good quality reeds. Students will need two reeds in good condition in their instrument case at all times. The recommended brands for reeds is Vandoren or Rico. The strength should be 2.0, 2.5, or 3.0 for intermediate players.

Music & Arts Instrument Rentals

While we have a limited number of school instruments for student use, renting an instrument is one of the best options for middle school band students. Even if you did not rent an instrument in 6th grade band, you can still sign up to rent one now! For instrument rentals, we work with Music and Arts based in Wilmington. Music and Arts offers a rent-to-own program, so each payment made goes towards the purchase of your student's instrument. Instruments are delivered directly to school and repairs covered under their liability waiver are picked up and returned to school as well. Music and Arts rentals can also be stopped at any time without penalty, just end the contract and return the instrument. Opportunities for Intermediate Players

All County Band

The Brunswick County All County Band is an opportunity for students to meet and perform advanced music with student musicians from across our county. Students spend two days at the clinic preparing for a concert on the second night. This clinic is held in April at Odell Williamson Auditorium. This event is by invitation only, based on interest level, class participation, and video audition.

All District Band

The North Carolina All District Band is an opportunity for students to meet and perform advanced music with student musicians from across the Southeastern region of our state. Students spend two days at the clinic preparing for a concert on the second night. Students must audition for this event, including a solo, scales, and sight-reading. The auditions are $10 and will be held at Mac Williams Middle School in Fayetteville, NC. The clinic will be at Corinth-Holders High School in Wendell, NC. All students are welcome to audition! District Band Audition Materials

UNCP Honors Band

The UNCP Honors Band is an opportunity for students to experience new music, learn from local and world renowned clinicians, and network with other student musicians from around North Carolina. The date for the program will be announced soon, but it is typically held in March at the University of North Carolina Pembroke. Students will spend the day in rehearsal sessions and conclude with a concert for family and friends at 5:00pm. This event is by invitation only.

WBHS 8th Grade Night

This is an exciting event where students will meet the members of the WBHS Marching Band, learn some marching basics, play fun music in the stands, and have a great time learning about the high school band program! All 8th graders in the county attend this event at their respective high schools.
