Notes for parents!
Just dropping everyone a quick update as we move into the last week of the contest season (pending football playoffs).....
Congrats to the wins the band had in Apex.... despite a tough overall show and a very tough class assignment, the PSC performed well and brought back the following awards....
2nd in Class 4A
1st Place-Color Guard
2nd Place- Music Performance, Visual Performance, General Effect, and Percussion
Our parents also "set the standard" by winning the best overall pit crew among the 17 schools competing!
Apologies to everyone for us getting back a little later than anticipated as well. Awards stretched out a little longer than we expected. This was our farthest away competition of the season so we shouldn't have any more nights that late.
One more note: The feedback I had from parents of student behavior at Middle Creek was EXCELLENT. I thought that was another positive thing to share.
Other notes....
1) Practices are not optional for students. We've had a little bit more absenteeism off and on this early semester and that's caused our progress to slow a bit. Per our band handbook, students with an unexcused absence of practice during the week of a performance may be held out of a performance and have their grade reduced accordingly for those performances. Please make sure your student adheres to the schedule of Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday rehearsals. Also please be a little patient and give students a couple of minutes once practice is dismissed to put away equipment and come to you- we often end rehearsal outside and it takes a couple of min.
2) Please help your student take care of themselves. They should be drinking A LOT of water, eating meals, and getting ample rest. Not doing this combined with the changing season and the proximity of students to each other on a daily basis can wear them down very quickly.
3) We still need parent volunteers! A few spots are still empty on the signup genius as of this posting. Please sign up here.... SBHS Band Fall 25 Signup Genius
4) Everyone (especially band students) should be wearing their band shirts again Saturday. Saturday's competition performance will be in full uniforms. Please make sure they are prepared for the weather as it turns cooler in the evening.
5) Just an FYI about shoes and other supplies- IF items were ordered correctly through the online store (or a couple of parents who emailed me soon after the store closed), your student's shoes/gloves, etc. came in and will be distributed on Monday 9/22.. There were a couple of omissions or errors and those have been taken care of and hopefully will be here by end of the week (we will make backup plans if not because it's a very small number of kids that should be without shoes/gloves, etc)
6) Thank you to everyone that has helped out so far- concession stand, uniform fittings, feeding the students, attending parent meetings, etc.... we are almost to the fun part following a rigorous August and September. :-) October is for certain one of the band's busiest months! We need parents to help out in many ways- from loading, chaperoning, working concessions, and much more. If you can, please help out.
7) Thanks for all you do for our students! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please let me know. The next few week will be big for our students- present and future as we continue to grow our program together.
8) Please feel free to join the Facebook Page for our Band Boosters- look for Pride of South Brunswick Band Boosters on Facebook. Hopefully this info will be posted on there as well. :-) Also signup for our class dojo so that I can send out quick remind announcements, etc. Join the dojo here.... SBHS Band Class Dojo This is especially important for events as weather can cause issues with scheduling.
9) INVITE EVERYONE YOU KNOW TO SHOWCASE! We want to have a big crowd for what should be a great night displaying the bands of North Brunswick, West Brunswick, and our own PSC here at South Brunswick! It's free and the gates will open at 6:30.
10. Here's the itinerary for next weekend's "doubleheader" below....
