As part of this year’s music curriculum, your child will be learning to play the recorder. The recorder presents a wonderful opportunity to introduce music reading and appreciation. I hope that by giving the students a positive, enjoyable learning experience they will be encouraged to develop an interest in music.
4th Grade: "Recorder Karate"
This method is a positive reward system in which students receive colored "karate belts" for their recorders for each progressively more difficult tune.
The nine familiar songs build gradually from two songs with only 3 notes: G A B (white and yellow), through the black belt song with many notes such as low-D, E, F#, G, A, B, high-C, and high-D.
