I graduated from UNCW in 2004 with a Bachelor's degree in Music Education and a concentration in vocal studies. In 2008, I earned my Master's degree in Music Education from East Carolina University. In 2010, I became a National Board Certified Teacher in Early/Middle Childhood Music. I am also an Orff-Schulwerk certified teacher. I was chosen as a member of the 2014-2015 Governor's Teacher Network where I created original music lesson units published by the North Carolina Department of Instruction and shared with teachers throughout the state. I taught middle school chorus in Columbus County for two years at Acme-Delco Middle School and Hallsboro Middle School. Then I spent 16 years at Eaton Elementary, a year-round school in New Hanover County teaching general music and chorus. I was honored to be the 2010-2011 Eaton Teacher of the Year and New Hanover County Teacher of the Year finalist! I have also served on the state level as the District 13 Representative (representing New Hanover, Brunswick, Pender, Bladen, Columbus, Sampson, and Duplin counties) on the North Carolina Music Educators Association Elementary Board. I was honored to be nominated into UNCW's PDS Master Teacher program from 2018-2022 and learned so much from my cohort. I am also proud to represent Belville this year as our 2025-26 Teacher of the Year!
My music program at Belville is rich in music integration and building musical and non-musical connections and experiences for my students. I promote and facilitate authentic and meaningful arts integration by mentoring music and classroom teachers regionally, co-authoring articles on integration in K-8 music and general education classrooms, and presenting these findings at national and international conferences.
My husband and I live in Southport, NC with our 10-year-old son, Hudson (who is also a Belville Shark) and German Shepherd, Kaiser. I am originally from Tennessee (my hometown is the official birthplace of country music) and I am also a huge Tennessee football fan! Go VOLS!! My family and I love Disney (taking trips to Disney World, talking about Disney, and planning our next trip.) This is my 22nd year teaching and my 4th year at Belville Elementary and I love every minute!

I believe that every child has a talent for music in their own special way, and it is my job to help them discover their gift. We take part in a variety of musical activities such as discovering our "Composer of the Month", singing, playing instruments, creating music, listening to music, and moving to music on a daily basis. All of these activities are part of the National Standards for Music Education and are designed to help each child develop musical skills and to know and appreciate many different types of music.
Music is a more potent instrument than any other for education. --Plato
