Brunswick County Schools students who meet the criteria for gifted programs and services in 6th through 8th grades participate in AIG classes for reading/English language arts and/or math/Math I. The AIG instruction at the middle school level is delivered through content-specific AIG classes, led by an AIG licensed/certified teacher who has been trained to understand and meet the academic and affective needs of gifted learners. Students in these classes are to receive advanced instruction, utilizing above-grade level and compacted curriculum and instructional units that extend beyond grade-level learning and are designed specifically for gifted and advanced learners.
Math I and Earth & Environmental Science are currently offered to 8th grade students who are prepared to take high school credit course work. Math I is the designated 8th grade math course for AIG math-identified students. Earth & Environmental Science is not an AIG course, but it is offered to students who demonstrate the ability and the interest necessary to do well in a high school level science course.
