Multimodal Literacy is an engaging way to incorporate technology and other creative ways into the classrooms. This type of learning activates all types of learning types such as kinesthetic, visual, and auditory. Some examples of multimodal learning are creating blogs, websites, Podcast, movies, presentations utilizing technology, artwork, art expression, games, and teaching. There are several different ways of multimodal learning! One of the ways I encourage this learning is by doing Choice Boards in the classroom (Click Here for an example). Another example is Digital Story Telling which I describe more about below.
Digital Storytelling is a great interactive way for students to utilize technology to tell a story. Students become play writers with their dialogue and apply video directions like stage directions. This type of assignment or technology activity finds a good mixture of creativity, storytelling, writing strategies, all while using technology for the 21st-century expectations in the direction of which the world is going in.
The creativity students can experience and display through their Digital Storybook. Another pro is the integration of technology with this type of assignment. Students can enrich their tech skills through developing knowledge of video skills, audio skills, editing skills, and using different software programs in general. Also, a pro is where students can get out of their comfort zone and try something! Or this can be where a student that has great tech skills shines or a student that learned the skills needed too!
