Coaching: When asked questions by students, we encourage students to find their own answers using the playlists OR revisiting a previous level challenge. There always multiple right answers.
Doing: When a challenge needs more independent resources, we go back and add those in Google classroom.
Mini-conferences
We realized that some students were struggling to make progress in their selected zone. One-on-one discussions allowed us to check in on how each student is progressing and to get student feedback on the challenges and zones. See an example of one of these conversations byclicking here.
Students now have to notify us when they are ready to move between levels (Explorer, Seeker, and Adventurer) so that we can check their notes and evidence on the Playlist before giving them the go-ahead.
Students will also have to conference and complete a survey before changing zones or after completing the Conqueror level of any zone. This allows us to collect feedback and evaluate student learning.
Planning for 2019-20 School Year Grades 3-5 (1:1 with PCs)
We are continuing to build the playlists for each zone this year. AND...
We will create a few challenges for a Zone resource until we get a larger playlist created.
Combine mastery of the Conqueror level of multiple playlists to get access to highly desirable resources such as the R2D2 Lego Droid or the BB8 Sphero.
We are adding playlists to each zone to add new areas to explore.
Students have time throughout the school year in their scheduled media classes to work on their personalized learning journey and are able to come flexibly before school and as their teachers allow to work on their playlists.
Planning for K-2 (1:1 with iPads)
Digital platform for recording notes and evidence of learning will be SEESAW
Student playlists for each Zone will be QR Codes that take students directly to video and audio directions and resources for activities and challenges.
Beyond the Media Center...
We've started creating other Google Classroom courses that we can share with teachers to help support Personalized Learning in their curriculum. One sample course is in the CTE Project Lead The Way middle school program. The GC course is with Robotics in Careers & Spheros. You can join and preview this class with this join code: 50g72e
