All juniors across the state of North Carolina will be taking the ACT in the spring semester. This is a test that aligns to the common core standards that are being initiated across the state of North Carolina. Students will have the ability to report their scores to the colleges of their choice. If students are uncertain about what they would like to do after high school, the ACT will identify their strengths and help match these to careers in which they may be most successful. Beginning the 2012-2013 school year, the ACT will become part of the accountability model for all high schools across the state.

Comparing ACT and SAT Scores - If you are interested in comparing ACT and SAT scores, use this calculator to convert your scores, or this table to compare ACT and SAT scores. You should always use your highest score when sending scores to colleges or scholarships.

Superscore - many colleges will take your highest scores from each section of the SAT or ACT and use them to create your highest composite score. This allows you to focus on your lowest scores when retaking the test. Calculate your ACT superscore using by clicking here. For information on SAT superscoring and Score Choice, click here.

Test Prep - for the SAT you can use Khan Academy to do free test prep. For ACT you can get free test prep when you register to take the test, if you are using a fee waiver, or you can also use ACT Academy for free test prep.

Fee Waivers - You may qualify for a fee waiver for the ACT or SAT. Most of our students who receive fee waivers qualify for free/reduced lunch, or are involved in a TRIO program like Project Discovery. You can read about fee waivers for ACT here. For more information about SAT fee waivers, click here. If you think you may qualify for a fee waiver, contact your counselor.

Score Reports - When you register for the ACT or SAT, please be sure to choose colleges which you would like to receive your score reports. This ensures that you will be able to send score reports at no cost. If you decide to send a score report later (after testing), you will most likely have to pay a fee.

If you are an athlete and want to be NCAA or NAIA eligible, be sure to send a score report to NCAA or NAIA in addition to your colleges. For NCAA use code 9999, for NAIA use code 9876.
