Last Week in Review:
We did really well last week on our intro to fractions. We learned how to divide a whole number by a whole number to have a fraction as a quotient. Our quiz results were EXCELLENT! Go, us!
Plans for this Week:
We are continuing our study of fractions. Let's multiply a whole number by a fraction this time!
Both classes retested our lowest question and scored a 90% on the retest!
We almost made our 80% goal as a class! We're retesting #3 and #7.
Both classes met our 80% goal.

Homework Policy:
*CHANGE*
Students will work on IXL for 25 minutes Monday-Thursday. Students will not have homework on Fridays. Their homework grade for the week is dependent on the number of minutes they spent working on IXL. IXL tracks their 'active' work time.
Students will be assigned a weekly math packet. The packet will be given on Monday and collected on Fridays. We will be working on these packets from 7:30-7:55 in the morning. If students are unable to complete these packets throughout the week during that time, it will be expected to be completed as homework.
Grades:
Grades are posted/updated in Infinite Campus every Wednesday. Unless we have a test - that will go straight into the gradebook on the day it's given. I do not go by the grade in Google Classroom - so please do not get confused with that grade vs. the Inifinte Campus grade. The Infinite Campus grade is the only one that truly counts. So if it counts - it will be in Infinite Campus.
Students should have an 80 or higher in my class. If they do not - I will reach out to you!
I take grades on:
Unit Tests
Classroom participation/work completion (this includes IXL skill tree sheets and Khan Academy)
Weekly Math Packets: not based on accuracy this is based on effort. I give a grade based on "page completion" so if we have for pages and your student has completed every page they will receive a 4 out of 4.
One of our former students (a math wizard!) has been compiling videos to help students and parents understand the different strategies for 5th grade math. We hope these are helpful when studying or working on homework problems.

Last Week in Review:
We're on heat!
Plans for this Week:
We're studying the relationship between matter and thermal energy. We will test on heat this Wednesday and move on to study weather. Please start to notice and talk about weather patterns with your kiddo (even simple ones! Examples: "It's cloudy today - what does that mean?" or "It's really foggy - do you know what causes fog?").

Supplies for Science:
1" binder
Composition book
Pencils, glue, scissors, erasers, handheld sharpener
Tissues and disinfecting wipes
Earbuds (not wireless)
Homework Policy:
I will not be assigning homework for students in science.
Students will be assigned a unit science packet. These will not be homework and will be an in-class assignment only.
Students will be working their way through 8 major units. At the end of the unit, students will participate in a 'case file' where they will have to solve real-life scenarios using the science concepts we covered that unit. Students will need to become 'classified' in order to participate. Which means they have enough conceptual knowledge to handle a more complex case file. To become 'classified' students will need to score an 80% or higher on quiz days for science. The quizzes are unlimited - which means they can retake the quiz as many times as they want to score an 80% or higher.
They will have classification sheets in sheet protectors in their science journals. All of which will be organized the first week of school. The sheet protectors will be provided.
Students are given an EOG in 5th grade science so it's important that they earn classification for each unit. If they're having difficulty doing this I will reach out to you directly.
