SPRING 2025

Feb. 3rd: High School Presentations during Social Studies Class; Registration Cards/Career Plans go home; Nesbitt Discovery Academy (NDA), Buncombe County Center for Career Innovation (BCCI), & Buncombe County Early College (BCEC) Applications Open

Feb. 5th:  Advanced Learner Night/Curriculum Night AC Reynolds High School (ACRHS) & TC Roberson High School (TCRHS); Adv. Learners at 5:30 pm, ALL students at 6:00 pm (NOT a drop-in, plan to be there on time please)

Feb 11th: NDA Presentation during Advisory; BCCI/BCEC Open House 6:00-7:30pm

Feb. 12th: Career Tech Class Presentation ACRHS & TCRHS during 8th grade Electives 1:30-3:00pm

Feb. 14th: High School Tours (bus transport) ACRHS & TCRHS 8:30am

Feb. 17th: REGISTRATION CARDS DUE (MUST COMPLETE, even if you are applying elsewhere)

Feb. 18th: BCCI/BCEC visit CCMS 7:45-8:15am; BCEC Open House 6:00-7:30pm @ AB Tech Birch Building

Feb. 19th: NDA and BCEC Open Houses 6:00-7:30pm

Feb. 20th: ACRHS & TCRHS Counselors come to CCMS to register all 8th grade students for classes

Feb. 24th: Interested CCMS students to visit BCEC 9:00am

Feb. 27th: Interested CCMS students to visit NDA 10:00am 

March 6th: BCEC Open House 6:00-7:30pm

March 13th: NDA Open House 6:00-7:30pm

*Rising ninth grade students, with the support and permission of their families, can choose a 22-credit accelerated pathway for high school graduation in three years.  The pathway option concentrates the core graduation requirements in six semesters and eliminates most all elective course options.  This option may be suitable for students who already know their post-secondary plans and who are willing to forego additional opportunities for career exploration, arts and other enrichment, and advanced academic options.

*Students and families should carefully consider the benefits and limitations of this option, with input from the school counselor.  An accelerated learning plan will be developed and reviewed with students and families and signed permission is required prior to the beginning of the 9th grade.

From NC State Board GRAD-006:

*Based on HB 259, Public School Units (PSUs) shall provide students with an option of an accelerated pathway for graduation in three years of high school, in addition to the typical four years of high school.

To graduate early from high school, a student must follow the process for early graduation from high school (SBE policy GRAD-001).

*Offering the SBE minimum graduation requirements in a three-year pathway takes intentional planning and a commitment from both the PSU and the student in Grade 9.

*Students choosing to be part of an accelerated pathway must have an accelerated learning plan that both the student and parent/guardian will agree to before Grade 9.

*Students may withdraw from this pathway prior to completion with written communication to the school from the parent and student.
