Co-Teaching

Co-Teaching is an inclusive practice for instructional delivery.  It provides Specialized Academic Instruction within the general education classroom.  The general education teacher and special education teachers share responsibility for planning, delivery, and evaluation of instruction.  Both teachers instruct heterogeneous groups of students in a single space. Co-teaching partnerships require educators to make joint instructional decisions and share responsibility and accountability for student learning within the least restrictive environment.

The roles and responsibilities co-teachers reflect the commitment and skills needed to teach all students, including those with disabilities. Teaching is in the general education classroom with general education and special education students together.  Co-teaching teams meet on a regular basis – optimally once a week – to plan instruction and assessments, and analyze data.
