I’m Ms. Scott, your new College Adviser!
I grew up in a small, rural town in North Carolina and throughout high school I was unsure of what my next steps would be. No one in my family had gone to college before, so I didn’t really think it was a possibility for me. I moved to Charlottesville for a full-time job the summer after high school graduation. Once there, I decided to take some part-time classes at Piedmont Virginia Community College, where I rediscovered my love of learning. Even though I knew it would be difficult, I decided that I wanted to go to college full-time. While working 30-hours a week to financially support myself, I completed my General Studies Associate's Degree at PVCC and transferred to the University of Virginia. I graduated May 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and hope to go back to school for my Masters degree in the next few years.
Throughout my time at PVCC and UVA, I struggled to know what my next steps should be moving forward. Since neither of my parents attended college, they were unsure as well, which meant I was left on my own to figure out a lot of the process. In my last year at PVCC I struggled with finding the perfect fit for transferring, not really understanding all of the factors that go into determining the best college for me. If I had it to do over again, there are certainly things I would do differently; however, I learned a lot about myself and the college application process through that uncertainty.
Through the struggles, failures, and successes in my own college journey, I found a passion for helping other students with their after high school plans. I want each of you to know that I am here to support and help you in whatever path you choose to take after high school, knowing that those paths are different for each of you. It is a tough and long process but I am here to answer any questions.
