General Maintenance Rules

  • Tractors should not be operated if any of the following conditions exist:
      • Standing water is present on the infield
      • If your foot sinks or slips in any amount of mud when walking the infield
      • If the tractor or grooming attachment appear to be broken in any manner
  • Rotate your grooming path when using the tractor. If you traveled clockwise the last time you dragged, travel counter-clockwise the next time.
  • Be aware of base sleeves. It may be helpful to put bases in place prior to dragging the field, as bases are much easier to see than the small rubber sleeve plugs.
  • Groom frequently - not only on game days. Grooming will provide a safe and level playing surface, minimizing dangerous "bad hops." Grooming will also prevent weeds.
  • Drive slowly when grooming a field. Not only are you less likely to hit sleeves, pitching rubbers, or home plate, but it will minimize dust clouds effecting neighboring homes. Please be a good neighbor.
  • Quick Dry should be used sparingly in "trouble areas" only, rather than spread over the entire field. Standing water WILL NOT be remedied with Quick Dry. If standing water is not removed a minimum of 6 hours prior to game time, do not attempt using Quick Dry.
  • Return all field grooming equipment to the equipment sheds they were found in.
  • Replace all rubber sleeve plugs. If a plug is lost and replacements are not available at the park, please report the missing equipment so it can be replaced.
  • If you discover, or happen to break a piece of equipment, please report the damage immediately so that repairs/replacements can be initiated.
  • When present (fields used by 11U and older), hitting mats should be used over the batter's box during all practices. Roll and stow the mats outside the field of play for all games. These mats greatly preserve the condition of the batter's boxes throughout the season.
