pastoral support at baysgarth school
At Baysgarth School we recognise the challenges that families face in promoting their children and young people to be safe, well, prosperous and connected. There may be times when students, parents or caregivers need extra help and support. If this is the case, please come and talk to us.
We have an extensive range of support available at Baysgarth School; Mr A North, Deputy Head of School is the Designated Senior Lead for Safeguarding and is supported by Miss Smith, our Child Protection Officer.
Our pastoral system is firmly established and rigorous both in relation to safeguarding and the nurturing support offered to all our pupils and families on a daily basis. Our clear hierarchy of Form Tutors, Heads of Year and Learning Managers are overseen by the Senior Leadership Team.
In addition to the Learning Managers, Heads of Year, Form Tutors and Heads of House, we have an established Inclusion and Wellbeing Team based within the school.
This is led by Mrs D Hennell who is our Inclusion Manager and Intervention Coordinator and supported by Mr D Brown, who is the Deputy Inclusion and Safeguarding Manager.
Mrs Hennell has been at Baysgarth School since 2020 after moving to North Lincolnshire in 2018. She has worked in secondary schools since 2002 and spent most of her school career at secondary schools in Lincoln where she held several roles, including teaching assistant, assistant SENCO, child protection officer, pastoral manager and interventions manager. Mrs Hennell is the Designated Senior Mental Health Lead and one of the Deputy Safeguarding Leads and believes that awareness and compassion are key to pastoral support and positive student wellbeing, as well as helping with academic focus and enriching experiences outside the classroom.
In her spare time, Mrs Hennell will probably be walking her dog or reading a book.
Mr Brown has been at Baysgarth School since 2017 after previously worked at another North Lincolnshire school. Mr Brown has held several roles including teaching assistant, cover supervisor, Instructor of PE & Business but mainly at Baysgarth as a Learning Manager.
In September 2024 Mr Brown became the Deputy Inclusion & Safeguarding Manager and leads intervention sessions throughout the whole school.
Mr Brown believes high standards of pastoral care go far further than a basic commitment to welfare, with pastoral care extending to every aspect of school life in order to foster pupils’ personal development as much as their academic progress.
In his spare time Mr Brown enjoys football, cricket & golf alongside coaching his sons football team.
