Scratch is a very simple coding tool created by MIT that can help teach the basic concept of coding to people of all ages! By dragging and dropping blocks and adding sprites (interactive images) you can create games, slideshows, quizzes, and more! To start using Scratch, click the website link below.
Good question! MIT has provided a website called Scratch in Practice just for educators filled with ways to teach Math, Literacy, or just basic Coding to students. In addition to this website, there is also a public Facebook group called Teaching with Scratch where teachers from across the US have shared the ways they have used Scratch in the classroom and answered questions other teachers have had about using Scratch.
The widget to the left is a Scratch project of a game of "Pong." Your students can simply click the green flag to start your project and interact with it within your site without opening a new window or tab!
Try it out: click the green arrow and use your mouse to move the slider at the bottom of the screen and keep the dog from touching the red bar.
Watch the video to the right to see how to place your project(s) into your Google site. NOTE: There is no sound in the video.
Scratch has several starter projects just for that! Simply click on a project that interests you, then click the green REMIX button. This will create a copy of the starter project and put it into your account so you can edit it! Erin also has a Scratch profile with a few projects/tutorials that you can remix as well.
