Our Classroom Expectations & Procedures

Our Classroom Expectations

  • We will listen and follow the directions the 1st time they are given.

  • We will be kind and respectful with our words and actions.

  • We will give our best effort in everything that we do.

Classroom Management

  • In our classroom, we use The Classroom Economy as a behavior management/reward system instead of using Class Dojo. Students earn classroom economy money for: following our classroom expectations, following the BHCA 25 Expectations, displaying positive behavior, for great effort on assignments/assessments, and more. Students can use their money to buy rewards and prizes. Students will also use their money to pay "fines" for displaying negative behavior, for not following our classroom expectations, for not following the BHCA 25 Expectations, etc.

  • In cases where a student's behavior becomes an issue, I will make parental contact through email and/or phone.

  • Please review the BHCA 25 Expectations.

Communication

  • I believe having open, clear lines of communication is a vital part of building and maintaining a strong Teacher-Student-Parent team. Together We Are Better!

  • Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have a question and/or concern. The best way to get in contact with me is through email. My email address is robinka2@bayhaven.org

  • To ensure that all of my students receive my undivided attention and maximized learning opportunities, I do not check and respond to emails during instructional time periods with my students. In order to give my parents my undivided attention as well, I have set aside "office hours" for communication. I am available before school, during my planning period (unless I have a previously scheduled meeting), and after my afternoon dismissal duty. The last email check and response for the school day is done at 3:00 pm. Any emails sent after this time will be checked and responded to upon my return to campus the following school day.

  • If there is a change in the way your child will go home or if you plan on checking your child out early, you will need to call the front office and they will page my classroom with the message. Please do not rely on email for communicating dismissal changes or any other type of emergency notification, as there is not a guarantee that I will get a chance to see it and respond before the end of the school day.

  • Teachers do not have classroom phones. In cases where I may need to contact you via phone, it will be from my personal cellphone. This call will come listed as blocked or private. Please ensure that your phone is able to receive calls from a blocked/private number during school hours. Please ensure that I have current contact numbers in order to reach you.

  • Please be sure to check our Google Class Calendar page frequently for testing dates and other important information.

  • Please be sure to check our Newsletter page each week for the weekly 2nd grade newsletter. The newsletter will have information about important dates, homework, and the academic skills we are covering for the week.

"Take Home" Folders, Planners, & Focus

  • Please check your child's "take home" folder each day. Please review any work that is sent home with your child and encourage them to explain to you what they've learned. Please take out any papers that are on the Keep at Home side of the folder each day.

  • If your child brings home a graded paper with a Please Sign and Return sticker, please review the work with your child and encourage them to explain to you what they didn't understand. Then, please sign and place the paper on the Send to School side of the folder and return it on the following school day.

  • In our classroom, students will learn how to use a planner to organize and write down assignments and spelling words. Please check your child's planner to make sure they are writing their homework and spelling words each week. For privacy reasons, the planner will not be used for parent/teacher communication. Please do not write or send a message in your child's planner. I do not check student planners nor do I write messages in student planners. Please send any messages via email.

  • Please be sure to check Focus on a weekly basis to monitor your child's grades on assignments and assessments. Extra work and extra credit will not be provided to change failing grades. Assessments dates are provided in advance on our Class Google Calendar.

Snack, Water Bottles, & Birthday Treats

  • Students will have snack time each morning after recess. Please send in a healthy snack for your child to enjoy each day. Please be sure to send any eating utensils that your child will need in order to eat the snack. Extra snacks will not be provided.

  • Students must bring a water bottle each day (filled with only water). The water bottle must have a "pop top" to prevent spills.

  • When it is your child’s birthday, you may send in a store-bought treat for your child to share with the class during our snack time. If your child's birthday occurs over the weekend, your child may share their birthday treat with the class on Friday. Please send plates, napkins, and eating utensils. If your child is having a party, invitations can only be passed out in class if everyone in the class is invited.
