Test Preparation
Graduation Testing Requirements
Students in the 10th grade will take the SBA Mathematics test which is administered in the spring. Information regarding the test can be found at SBAC Students and Families
Practice Tests
To help prepare students for the types and format of questions that will be asked during the mathematics test, I recommend that students complete both the HS-Math Practice Test and the HS-Math Performance Task offered through the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium.
Click Sign In (with guest defaults).
Select student grade (drop down list).
Choose a test. Students will need to be familiar with the Math and the Math Performance Task. The Training Test is shorter and only goes over the different types of questions that may be on the test. The Practice Tests will give you a better feel of what the test is like.
Click Select to accept defaults and then Begin Test Now.
Sit with your student and help with any difficulties with concepts or question answering techniques. Note: results won’t be saved and there won't be a score to indicate if your answers are correct.
You may use scratch paper and graph paper while taking the test, however, only use the calculator provided within the test (a calculator icon will be visible in the upper right hand corner of the test for questions that a calculator is allowed).
Once you have completed the Practice Test, repeat these instructions to take the Performance Task.
Math Practice
Below you will find some resources to use to practice the skills that might be covered during your test. The SBA test is adaptive which makes it a little difficult to prepare for, however you will benefit greatly if your basic math facts are in tip top shape since you will not be allowed to use a calculator for most of the test. And, if you have time for additional preparation, you may want to check out the additional reviews posted here.
