1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module provides an opportunity to be involved in a field investigation of issues that are relevant to contemporary sociology and social change. Key themes will vary according to field location, but you will be exploring people’s relationship with their environment, society and culture. The module is centred on an overseas residential field trip where the emphasis will be on team work in groups, considering project planning and research with the emphasis on sharing of knowledge and experience. You will be actively involved in planning and delivery of the field trip, thereby encouraging creativity and enabling your learning through common experience and responsibility.

The module content will vary according to the fieldwork location.
3. Teaching and learning activities:
In addition to the residential field-trip, there will be structured preparation and follow-up sessions in the form of workshops. These will develop your understanding of issues and research methodologies. During the field work you will undertake a mixture of staff-led orientation sessions along with student project work.
