1. Brief description and aims of module:
With a foundation of innovation, enterprise, and design thinking, students will dive into the core areas of Psychology to explore how their basic science and theory have been applied socially and commercially to solve real-world problems. Critical evaluation of case studies and developing their own solutions and innovations to modern issues in these content areas will prepare students for the opportunity to develop and present their proposal to an authentic and timely challenge plaguing an external organization.
2. Outline syllabus:
The syllabus will reflect current topics, research, and applications of psychology and may include the following:
Creative enterprise
Innovation
Design thinking
Wicked problems and the role Psychology can play
Managing an ethical balance between authentic science and consumer appetite
Application of psychological science in policy for social advancement
Translation research in biological, cognitive, social and developmental psychology - successes, failures, and everything in between
3. Teaching and learning activities:
This module comprises lectures and seminars to a total three hours of contact time each week.
Lectures will introduce core topics and provide a framework for the module. Seminars will be used to extend or explore these topics in depth, with a range of activities such as small-group work and discussions, presentations, practicals, and activities directly related to the assessments.
