1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module provides the opportunity for a sustained period of intensive creative development, enabling you to showcase your knowledge of creative art direction and your own personal photographic vision. You will produce a body of photographic work that centres around a self-defined creative brief that is relevant to your career aims as a fashion photographer. Your final creative fashion statement will be a reflection of rigorous practical methodologies, critical research enquiry and industry relevance. You will underpin your practice with theoretical research and your final work will demonstrate your knowledge of ethical and sustainable perspectives within the fashion industries.
The module aims to help you to:
● Define clear contexts and targeted audiences for your work that are industry specific.
● Demonstrate independence in practice through clear time management and project coordination.
● Produce a body of self authored work that demonstrates creative technical skill and proficiency in your subject specialism.
● Identify your personal vision and ambition for future employability within the fashion photography industry.
2. Outline syllabus:
This module provides you with the opportunity to define your personal vision and ambitions within a practical body of photographic work. You will make choices about the direction of your work and develop a self authored brief that speaks to a specific target market within fashion.
You are required to challenge your ideas through complex enquiry through in-depth research, deepening your understanding of the professional contexts for your photography and relevant audiences.
The module also provides you with the opportunity to further develop your technical knowledge. Industry guests provide practical masterclasses in photographic techniques, art direction and styling. These are valuable opportunities for you to refine your professional skills and shape your readiness for employment.
3. Teaching and learning activities:
Industry guests help shape your professional experience within this module. Seminars, lectures and workshops will be delivered by a range of industry practitioners. These sessions help to shape your photographic technique and employability skills.
Your research practice is supported through tutorials and consultations. Briefings provide valuable research methodologies and weekly tutorials provide a platform to explore social, ethical and sustainability issues relating to fashion photographic practice.
You will demonstrate your research practice and contextualisation of your thinking through presentations and research submissions where you will record and present your research and process development within a reflective journal and research report.
