1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module is designed to help you define your professional persona, in preparation
for leaving the course. This requires more precise research into the territory that you feel is suitable for you, and the development of a strategy for finding your place within it. You must evidence considerations that include personal and social issues that define your potential career. A programme of seminars from alumni and industry professionals, will help you to consider your ambitions for life beyond university.
This module aims to:
help you to identify a professional direction for your practice
define a personal and social agenda with regard to your career
refine your organisational, communication and presentation skills.
2.Outline syllabus:
This module includes seminars, workshops and lectures by individual photographers and a range of professionals within the creative industries. You will explore the potential to work both individually and collaboratively and gain a critical understanding of audiences and a variety of professional contexts for your practice. Key seminar and workshop activities focus on:
Self promotion techniques, letter writing, CV preparation and online portfolio.
Presentation/exhibition/promotional/employability strategies for professional practice.
Consideration of ethical, social and environmental issues in individual practice.
Sustainability Issue mapping for an individual photographic practitioner.
3.Teaching and learning activities:
You will learn through tutor–led projects and exercises, tutorials, critiques, seminars, workshops, lectures and your own investigations, all documented in a learning log (online Dossier). You will be given a number of practical and research based tasks, covering topics outlined above in the Outline Syllabus, further information will be provided to you in a module handbook. The assignments are designed to help you achieve the learning outcomes of the module, through appropriate challenge and direction. Active learning will be facilitated through Minerva.
