1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module develops your skills and experience as a creative musician by exploring interdisciplinary contexts and working methods.
The module aims to:
Extend your skills as a creative musician
Provides you with opportunities to develop your creative skills and understanding when working in specified interdisciplinary contexts
2. Outline syllabus:
You undertake two creative projects, selected from a range of available choices. Both projects are designed to focus on developing and applying your skills to new interdisciplinary contexts. Such projects might include (but are not restricted to) creating a film score; working with dancers to create a collaborative site-specific event; creating incidental music for a stage production; collaborating with a scientist to create work that explores a current topic. You complete a creative assignment for each project, with specific briefs set by your course tutor(s).
3. Teaching and learning activities:
Each project begins with a series of seminars designed to support your technical, aesthetic and contextual understanding of the work you are making. The seminars will present relevant existing work, consider the practical challenges relevant to the topic and explore the skills needed to address them. Your work will be supported by individual and/or group tutorials where you will work on your project with tutor and peer support. You will prepare your work for presentation as specified in the brief, and it will be shared with the relevant audience(s) in an appropriate way (such as a performance, recording, publication, workshop, public engagement event, installation or online).
