1. Brief description and aims of module:
Through exploration of community and educational issues associated with the wider professional music landscape, students develop skills and knowledge appropriate for a wide range of careers.
This module aims to:
Explore the field of community music.
Provide you with opportunities to gain specialist knowledge and experience of areas of community music-making and other educational and therapeutic contexts.
Extend your self-reflexive analysis and evaluative skills
2. Outline syllabus:
Sessions provide in-depth training and opportunities for practical understanding of issues in community music, music therapy and educational practices. Sessions may include, for example, pedagogic strategies for instrumental/vocal tuition, workshop-leading and structuring programmes of community music-making, ensemble/choral leadership, and/or music therapy. You create a portfolio of work to demonstrate the work undertaken in the module, which may include examples of working processes, a reflective research journal, and/or assessment of workshop leading or instrumental teaching skills.
3. Teaching and learning activities:
Tutors deliver the module through group practical sessions that introduce topics and include practical workshops. These explore and demonstrate pedagogic and animateuring techniques and strategies.
