1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module develops your skills and experience as a performing musician by critically developing your performance interests into an emerging and distinct identity as an artist. Forms of development may include the derivation of a personal repertoire, defining a personalised approach to performance presentation, and understanding and identifying the core audience for your work.

2. Outline syllabus:
Sessions in performance studies introduce you to approaches and existent contextual models with and against which to begin to understand your identity as an artist. These sessions discursively present the consideration of important facets to mark you as distinct and practical within the wider music/performance industry. Sessions may include discussion of the development of a practice personal repertoire from which you may draw, deriving a personalised and distinctive approach to performance practice and/or stagecraft; and identifying and locating the core audiences for your work, as well as how to access them. You complete two projects, the first designed to demonstrate this cohesive creative identity, and the second to allow you to practically showcase the wider contextual issues you have addressed in developing this.
3. Teaching and learning activities:
Classes are composed of a series of group lectures, practical workshops and discussions that allow exploration and discussion of the artistic issues on which the course focuses. Classes provide space for discussion-of and experimentation-with these ideas, whilst instrumental lessons provide you with a space to activate the particulars of these skills within the context of your own instrument/voice.
